CRETE (High Resolution 2048x2048)
« on: June 28, 2014, 03:46:23 AM »

The Crete map is a retextured and repopulated version in High Resolution of Viking4570 his Crete map.
Heights of mountains and hills have been changed. Also minimap has been edited.
As a compromise I've not changed the basic layout of city and village textures so it won't effect any existing single or quick missions and campaigns. For the same reason I've not changed the (wrong) location of the airfield near Rethymno and fictional airfield of Santorini is still in its place.

Take in account the high rez textures only work in conjunction with Carsmaster's 'High Resolution / True Color Textures Mod' installed. And only in 4.09, 4.10 and 4.12.
Having issues with his mod ask over there (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=33239.0). Having issues with installing the Crete map ask here.

So if you got the high rez mod up and running installing this map won't cause any problem. Just drop the folder 'summer2048' in Mapmods/Maps/-Tex/land/ and drop the folder 'vkg_Crete' in Mapmods/Maps/.

For some textures I added .tree files but because of the annoying pop up effect I left them out.
The pop up issue became very noticable in the open field. Then I tried the olive tree object we have in FMB but same problem.
Unfortunately.

this is an outstanding map; thank you very much. Maps like these keep IL2 alive!  (for me at least)  :)

Just a quick question, why post a video and make it private, you would think it was posted for members to view.  TC

This by now is a default map, for MA 5.3 and getting DBW 1.71 maps into, see here:

too-cool:

I'm a great believer in choice and I like to separate maps as they are retextured if at all possible. I do this just in case, for some oddball reason, I don't like the retexture. Here's what I did to make this map a new, separate map:

Name the folder for this new map something like "vkg_Crete_Hi_Rez" - this is my name for it.

In the all.ini add the line "vkg_Crete_Hi_Rez vkg_Crete_Hi_Rez/load.ini" under or over the line "vkg_Crete vkg_Crete/load.ini" - again, this is from my install.

In the "View">"Maps" in FMB you'll see the entries "vkg_Crete" for the original map and "vkg_Crete_Hi_Rez" for the new map.

Now, if you wish to bring your old missions over to this new map go into the .mis files and change the map line from "vkg_Crete/load.ini" to "vkg_Crete_Hi_Rez/load.ini" (without the quotation marks of course!).

I've gotta say, I've flown the old map and man, this map is absolutely beautiful! Keep up the great work Uufflakke.

Tom

Don't much have any use for MA 5.3, AG-51 uses HSFX 7.0.2 and I'm not seeing a "Crete" map in the all.ini, that's why I asked if there was another map needed, or if the Crete part was part of some other bigger map.

In the Med section of the map pack in HSFX there is no map just named Crete.

and  "vkg_Crete vkg_Crete/load.ini" is not in the all.ini  Tried the Hi_Rez version load.ini and it won't load......

Thanks

Hoss
