Title: Water=4 [4.09] [4.10]
Post by: SAS~Skipper on April 15, 2011, 12:48:56 AM
This version is NOT INTENDED for very low-end PCs.
In my opinion improved the smoothness and naturalness of the waves,
REDUCE frequency waves themselves, added more sheep (in Russian sheep = wave crest) on the waves

with Carmasters's great light mod and this water mod + Avala's Shine mod, IL2 looks very nice, I really wish we can get a new repacked IL2 in some day :P :P

Many thanks for Skipper's post!!!
Seems for my old PC(E6600 GTS450 8G ram), there are not much different on FPS in water=3 or 4

What does it mean not compatible with OLC water?
This means that you should decide for themselves which version to use.
Both use the same name fashion texture.
Selecting one of the options, make sure that the other is disabled.

ps Eh-heh-heh, so the creators of becoming administrators. Woe is me!

OK cool, figured.
Ok so here's the deal, every time I try to add the water effect it disables carsmasters lighting effects.
Ive tried just putting the whole carsmasters folder in mods, and Ive tried only adding the _tex info to my mapmods.

Ok ya I'm definitely doing something wrong.
Isn't working in my 4.09/UP2.01 at all, figured it was a mod conflict.
Tried adding it to my vanilla HSFX 5 with MOD folder, no dice. Nothing, at all.
Is there something special about this mod in the install?

Nothing.
~\MODS\MAPMODS\Maps\_Tex\water\animated

ps Try to make water = 1.
Water should deteriorate greatly if the mod works.

Well ya, at water 1 it all looks like garbage!
Anyway that's where Ive been putting it, but it looks no different than when I was running water 4 before hand.
Heres what I have, Conf water set at =4, and the 'animated' folder in the apropriate above mentioned location. Crimea map at noon.

I tried it out with poor weather conditions and noticed to have more foam on top of the waves.
Haven't noticed (yet) a difference in movement or whatsoever.

Well Guys,

This looks so fantastic I am dreaming of a new computer...not today unfortunately. But in line with being my slightly beligerent self, I am going to ask, just to see if it might be doable in the future, if any modder has considered whether ocean swells might be possible.

I guess you might describe swells as being waves of greater area,  20 x 20 m, or 50 x 50 m, say for example, with normal waves projected on top of these.

(http://www.military-art.com/mall/images/dhm6002.jpg)

This is not a demand, but a request for those of you who have the skills to manipulate these parameters to consider whether this is possible, and if anyone migth give it a whirl. It is always the current work that you guygs do that takes us further ahead in conssidereation each time.

Great Work.

You don't have OLC's water installed anywhere do ya CWMV? Your install order looks right and as long as you have water=4 in your config ini it should be working.

Ok I see them,try a carrier take off mission and see if your water looks like this looking from the deck.   (http://i697.photobucket.com/albums/vv340/Bingo1957/dy56.jpg) if it does then the mod is working.

 :o
Ok well, OP, sorry for crowding the thread with BS. This mod in fact works wonderfully, but not in the crimea map where I test all the mods I add.
Doing a carrier take off mission as suggested I saw it in all its beauty.
Ive never seen better looking, um, sheep... :P
Gumpy, thanks for the heads up.
EDIT: I think its simply a matter of colors. The dark blue of the water in the carrier missions makes it easy to see, but in the Crimea map I didn't see any difference at all with or without the mod in good weather, turn it to thunder storms and there are "sheep" everywhere, and there is a definite improvement in the water quality.

Anyway yeah looks like it's working for ya,good to hear.You know this mod may not work on all maps or if it does it may be a very subtle change I'll test it out with the Crimea map and see how it looks.(Update) even though I don't do a lot of flying on the Crimea map and can't say what the water normally looks like this (http://i697.photobucket.com/albums/vv340/Bingo1957/udr6.jpg)looks pretty good to me and this is in clear light.

If your talking about your config ini Schwieger change the number to 4 and then make your config ini a Read only file,you do this by right clicking on it and go to properties and change it to Read only and click apply.Just remember that anytime you want to change something in it you have to change it back to a regular file it's really no big deal changing it back and forth.

Umm I think you'd be better off putting it in the MAPMODS _Tex folder/water folder.If you don't have a water folder in the _Tex folder then just go ahead and drop the water folder from the mod in there.

Anyway, I went and removed the mod and did a few screen shots in the carrier take off mission...I don't really see a difference.

Title: Re: Water=4
Post by: SAS~Bombsaway on April 15, 2011, 05:51:50 PM
CWMV, it may depend on a few things. Your graphics card, settings in the config.ini and I use nhancer to help with the graphics. I didnt notice alot of difference to the water itself but the whitecaps are cool. Although I think I like the first version as the second makes them show up in too many "lines" it dosent look as real. I'm greatful for both versions but I tend to like the first one.

(http://i697.photobucket.com/albums/vv340/Bingo1957/fgi7.jpg)Really the changes are very subtle and hardly noticeable but,I don't think the mod was designed to make big changes in looks like the big environmental mods of the Silent Hunter series.
Title: Re: Water=4
Post by: Avala on April 15, 2011, 07:47:59 PM
MODS>MAPMODS>_Tex

This?

MODS>MAPMODS>MAPS>_Tex

Difference is subtle. It is more obvious in the bad weather condition. Besides more wave crests I see that the water is more wavy (with the stocks one is the more flat), also tiny bit of different scattered light on the waves (could be because of "deeper" waves).

Thanks Sergey  :)

I'm not sure that there is water higher than 4, maybe to try 6, if it doesn't turns back to 4 or 5, I would say that it don't works, also number 5 don't works, just that the game don't turn it back.

Really the changes are very subtle and hardly noticeable but,I don't think the mod was designed to make big changes in looks like the big environmental mods of the Silent Hunter series.

Its almost like the lighting mod skipper recently published here. At first i didnt see what it really did, then after leaving it on for a while I fired up 4.101 and instantly I missed it. Subtle, but huge at the same time.

Well that may be a problem wouldn't it?
Maybe one of the other more knowledgeable members can chime in but I know ATI cards have trouble running perfect landscapes, and Ive read that the max they can really run is water 2. I had an ATI 5450 and couldn't do jack with it. Hence my switch to GTX 460.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong!

I'm running with an ATI card and this mod works like a charm.
"water=2" for ATI is the same as "water=4" for nVidia, it's just a matter of different technology.

Try this in your conf.ini file:
HardwareShaders=1
VideoSetupId=8

Stock Water:

Water mod:

Aaaah I finally got it working...
Now a question, i work as a real life pilot for an airline nhere in Europe and very often we fly over the english channel and even though sometimes there is not a clouds to be seen for miles, the water will have these white "foam sheeps" haha anyway because its still pretty windy.. As a matter of fact, windy days are often with a clear sky.
So my question is, is it possible to get these foam effect on the waves even on "GOOD" weather settings? Is there something I can edit on my own inside this mod to get that?
This mod just makes the water looks so more lifelike :)))
Great MOD!!

@Anders_And
It is from the ntrk video F4FvsG4M, I think the weather is good.
Maybe it's something about the map and not only the weather. ;)

This mod just makes the water looks so more lifelike :)))
Great MOD!!

Yes, it is in the plan, we will do it.

Maybe try setting your weather to poor, but turning off the clouds (video settings). This is what I do in the pacific theatre to create a hazy/humid looking atmoshere.

WARNING: WATCH YOUR GPU TEMPS

This mod can push your GPU to 99%, something I've never seen before running Il-2 with my GTX285 OC.  Did Carsmaster reverse engineer Cl*D water???  It's hard to believe I'm seeing this in Il-2  ???

No such problems here.

It may be related to your Ati type.
You might try some tricks to improve your performance..e.g. texture compression S3TC in your setup, or set TexFlags.TexCompressARBExt=1 in your config.ini..still not sure if those tips are correct or help ;)

Good Luck. I also need a new card with better power this year. Quality=super-power and high performance qulity=medium with mine. No cash ATM ;D

This is probably as good a place as any to ask  ;)
I am using a GTX275, but when I set water=4 in my conf.ini. I get the dreaded colour banding (rings) effect in water. I have to use water=1, which negates any effect this mod might have.
I am running win 7 x64 bit and using 270.61 drivers, but it was also an issue with previous driver versions.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Try Hazy or Poor, GTX275 should not have this problem. IL2 is an old game. check your setting if it's Perfect set!

I have a problem; I play IL2 with patch 4.09 and UP 2.01. The water in my game does not look as good as the pictures shown here. My waters are a flat blue plate! I changed in the conf.ini water=1 to water=4. No effect!! Can anybody help me?

Wait for UP 3, make an update to 4.101m Patch and finally tweak your conf.ini manually to get perfect/higher gfx settings.
Then apply this Mod and enjoy a better IL-2.
It is not recommended to use ingame settings, better do your own manually.
Mission for Today or SturmoWiki holds Tutorials for Conf.ini, how it works, what can be changed. You may also like to use Hades' Post about GFX settings and Sound settings, I found them usefull.
It could fill pages till you get it worked out, please search a bit. I'm waiting for UP3.

PS: ... besides getting some time reading about the config.ini settings it is mandatory to run the game in Open GL and with Perfect landscape settings for the perfect water. You can enable both  ingame.

For Ati cards water=2 is the max, for NVidia water=4.

Besides the setup tool and the ingame settings, it's indeed the best way to make additional changes in the config.ini.

Hello Tom2,

as I have already written, I have already set in the config.ini water = 4. I have enabled in the game open GL. Both unfortunately have no effect. There are also activates the "perfect" ground textures in Game. And again .... no effect. Can anybody post his config.ini, with correct water effect! Then i can compare with my config.ini. Is the perfect water in game only with open GL setting and patch 4.10?
Thanks again for your help!

Your game is in DirectX mode. :)
You need to change this:
[GLPROVIDER]
GL=dx8wrap.dll

to:
[GLPROVIDER]
GL=Opengl32.dll

yes, it seems you are running the game in DirectX mode, you can change this in the IL2setup file (il2set.exe).... ;)
oh, another tip for you @ stanislao....i notice both of you have LandGeom=2.
you can change this to 3, for a much improved visibility distance... ;)

Hi Lt.Krueger, you should set weather to poor, which is windy for large wave effect. I use VP default map repack mod, cat master's light effect too. you can find it in visual section in this forum. I always post resized original screenshot, without PS work on it, I am too lazy to do it now. :P

Off topic, if you allow:

I once checked all entries for the config.ini - but forgot details:

What do the numbers after:

VideoSetupId=XX  ?

I set mine to 17 for a reason I totally forgot.
What would be the difference with

VideoSetupId=2 or -4?

Thanks in advance! :)

@McWolf

A big "THANK YOU" from me!!!! With this mods are IL2 are "up to date" and looks very good! what is this for a mod " SAS 3.0"? Is the update from 4.09m to 4.101m necessary? I have IL2 1946 with UP 2.01 and 4.09m update. When i need this 4.101m update, how to install this update? I  hope I do not have to uninstall  the up2.01?

Hi, you need this thread:

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,8528.0.html

Basically, you have to patch an unmodded game (always save a backup copy for future installs) to 4.01.m.

Then you can e.g. install the latest SAS Modact..
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,15232.0.html

Or UP 3.0 RC...you can install UP 3.0 RC in the same install as your Modact, if you have one! Just read a bit ;)..I know it's a lot of stuff for a new starter, but these threads are relatively easy.

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,15966.0.html

AFAIK the full version of the latest UP is yet to come in a month or so.

Cheers

Tom

Yes I have the damn ATI
Title: Re: Water=4
Post by: SAS~Storebror on July 01, 2011, 03:03:26 AM
Go get some of the latest 2010 ATI drivers, e.g. the 10.12. That one solves the block text issue and should run well with most 2010 cards.
If you happen to have some very latest state of the art ATI card, you might want to give the current driver a try, otherwise just stay away from current updates.

Additionally please keep in mind that for ATI cards water=4 doesn't work, you have to set water=2 (which has the same effect like the Nvidia water=4 setting).
Also pay attention to the OpenGL texture flags, for ATI it has to look like this:
Code: [Select]
TexFlags.TexEnvCombine4NV=0
TexFlags.TexEnvCombineDot3=1
TexFlags.DepthClampNV=0
TexFlags.SeparateSpecular=1
TexFlags.TextureShaderNV=0

These lines really confuse me so could you tell me what is those lines task in the game
Title: Re: Water=4
Post by: SAS~Storebror on July 01, 2011, 06:14:44 AM
Those lines are in the [Render_OpenGL] section of your conf.ini file inside the IL-2 folder, they do set some parameters for texture handling in your graphics driver and must be set accordingly whether you have an Nvidia or ATI card.

For your ATI card they have to look like this:
Code: [Select]
TexFlags.TexEnvCombine4NV=0
TexFlags.TexEnvCombineDot3=1
TexFlags.DepthClampNV=0
TexFlags.SeparateSpecular=1
TexFlags.TextureShaderNV=0

For an Nvidia card they would have to look like this:
Code: [Select]
TexFlags.TexEnvCombine4NV=1
TexFlags.TexEnvCombineDot3=1
TexFlags.DepthClampNV=1
TexFlags.SeparateSpecular=1
TexFlags.TextureShaderNV=1

See the difference? The Nvidia card settings have all parameters ending on "NV" set to "1" while for ATI cards those parameters are set to "0". The "NV" end of the parameter name already points to those parameters being Nvidia specific.

Best regards - Mike

I'm using Catalyst 11.5.
I tested 11.1, 11.3 and 11.4 and all of them work well.
I think 11.3 is the best for IL-2, if I remember well, it's the first version with full compatibility with OpenGL.

I have XP 32 Bit and had issues with the newer drivers. Neither color temperature nor performance was any better, more worse.
The best driver for me is the 10-9 one, also the 10-7/5 were nice.
Only issue I have: With 10-9 as well as 10-7/5 IIRC, using dynamical lights=2/1 causes artificial shimmering when firing guns. I always keep that off.

I wouldn't wanna go back to NVidia BTW. (Overall.)

Title: Re: Water=4
Post by: SAS~Storebror on July 01, 2011, 11:58:52 AM
11.3 was the first driver which gave me an endless boot->BSOD->boot loop on XP with an HD4670, so 11.2 was the latest to work for me.
From 10.10 onwards I didn't have any issues with either IL-2 settings.
My old HD4670 provided a much smoother AA than my new GTX550Ti does and generally ATI cards are slightly above Nvidia pendants from a price vs. performance point of view, but to be honest all that driver hassles were a pain in the ass to me (ATI Tray Tools never worked for me for instance, so I always had to select profiles manually, which applied system-wide instead per-window as on Nvidia boards, just to mention two glitches), so I'm back a happy Nvidia user since a few weeks now and it's pretty unlikely that I'll ever return to ATI as long as I play IL-2.

But that's just a sidenote and slightly off-topic ;)

This water effects thing at least works for both, you just have to remember to set water=2 on ATI machines instead of water=4 on Nvidias.

Best regards - Mike

I'll mark the relevant settings from my config.ini setting in main install folder, keep in mind I did not set this to the max for IL-2, still deactivated some options like dynamical lights or max LandGeom=3, since those caused some minor issues with my driver.

Yep, it's using big textures, quite like the cockpits in question do.
You can either enable S3TC texture compression (use search function of the board to find relevant hits) or stay away from the big eye candy stuff.
Your screenshot easily shows serious GPU limitations, your graphics card obviously doesn't use Anti Aliasing, Anisotropic filtering or Trilinear optimization. Clear hints of a low end GPU or inappropriate settings, both of which would have to be cured first.
You just can't take your 80s Diesel Oldsmobile for a ride on the Indie 500.

Try using Water = 2 instead of 4.

I've got OpenGL enabled, but I think Storebror is right. I need a new graphics card.
In order to do that, I need a new PC aswell, as my 2002 Dell Dimension 8300 couldn't handle a state of the art graphics card.
When I can afford $2000 coin for a new PC, I'll get one, but right now, I need to focus money on other stuff.

Hi to all!

I've reduced all the mod's .tga files from 24bit to 8bit...resulting in no more stutters or low FPS when flyin' at sea level and
without any loss in quality with Water=4.

Install as the original one.

Enjoy!

EDIT:

To be more correct there're slightly stutters yet with Poor or Blind weather

Hi man, dunno how's the situation in the US but over here you get a decent mid-range PC well suited for IL-2 between 600 and 700 Euros. So I'd say between 800 and 950$ you'd be well within reach of a complete new system.
Maybe for 600 -depending where you buy. For 2000 bucks you'd get a little Ferrari of a PC lol. :D
Still lot of cash, struggling to upgrade myself.  ??? So I feel your pain. My philosophy is one upgrade every 5-6 years followed by smaller mini upgrades...need a new GFX card which also sucks. ::)

There are reviews of version 3.17 ?

First of all , thank you for your work. This version is very good but I have noticed one issue - I use the Palau map in QMB as a visual benchmark when I tweak my settings or install new visual mods like yours. After installing 3.17 , I noticed that the waves move in the same direction in relation to the Islands , whereas before , the waves would interact with each Island individualy. There is also a noticeable band visible that goes on shore past the beach line. This also appears to happen on any shoreline on various maps. I disabled the FoamCurve3 RAW file and the anamolies with the waves and banding went away. Hope this helps

Thanks , Ribs

Tried it also.

I would say that waves looks more finer, and thus more natural now. I didn't noticed problems as Ribs do, but I think that coastline looks somehow more coarser now. Here are some screenshots, and more of them in rar file, who wants to see them. I made new foam texture also:

Hard to tell the major differences, maybe a tad more shine on the water? I can confirm the foam at the coast looks erratic. Also not sure, but could it be there is more symmetry on the wave pattern seen from altitude?

Some impressions, I use an Ati card thus can't max out the beauty like users with NVidia cards.
I will try it a while longer and without the FoamCurve3.rar.

Hello,

You need to be running the game in Perfect mode and Open GL!
Set:
In your main game's conf.ini file set "HardwareShaders=1"
...
and
"water=4" for NVidia
or
"water=2" for Ati/AMD graphic cards.

So, e.g.:
...
conf.ini

[Render_OpenGL]
TexQual=3
TexMipFilter=3
TexCompress=0
...
...

HardwareShaders=1

Shadows=2
Specular=2
SpecularLight=2
DiffuseLight=2
DynamicalLights=0
MeshDetail=2
VisibilityDistance=3

Sky=2
Forest=3
LandShading=3
LandDetails=2

LandGeom=2
TexLarge=1
TexLandQual=3
TexLandLarge=1

VideoSetupId=17
Water=2
Effects=1
ForceShaders1x=1

PolygonOffsetFactor=-0.15
PolygonOffsetUnits=-3.0

Tom

...

Title: Re: Water=4
Post by: stanislao on December 07, 2011, 12:52:36 PM
Many thanks Tom2 for your prompt response,
 but your valuable suggestions have been made ??on the file conf.ini on time,
 HarwareShaders = 1
 water = 4
 [Render_OpenGL]
 TexQual = 3
 TexMipFilter = 3
 TexCompress = 0

 HardwareShaders = 1

 Shadows = 2
 Specular = 2
 SpecularLight = 2
 DiffuseLight = 2
 DynamicalLights = 0
 MeshDetail = 2
 VisibilityDistance = 3

 Sky = 2
 Forest = 3
 LandShading = 3
 LandDetails = 2

 LandGeom = 2
 TexLarge = 1
 TexLandQual = 3
 TexLandLarge = 1

 VideoSetupId = 17
 Water = 4
 Effects = 1
 ForceShaders1x = 1

 PolygonOffsetFactor =- 12:15
 PolygonOffsetUnits =- 3.0

 Keep in mind that my PC is running a video card GeForce 7950.NVIDIA. held at the maximum settings .. and despite the "Perfect mode" and '"OpenGL" my waves are perfectly flat, absolutely flat .. the 3D effect of the published images in posts does not occur, even I do not even appear in the foam effects in adverse weather conditions...  Maybe I have to give up and wait for a more powerful video card?
 Thanks anyway for your interest.
 However thanks and have a joyful flight.

Maybe cutoff the entire OpenGL range of your config.ini and copy and paste the ones by Avala exactly in your config.ini-without doubling things.

I have both installed and neither appears to affect either one. And Russian? What Russian? All instructions are in English.

Anyway, if you go to page 14:
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,15180.156.html
and from htguderians post about halfway down the page, download his version of more frs friendly water, then you'll get a zipped file. Unzip of course.

In the unzipped folder go to the deepest folder, which is called 'animated' and place that folder here:

...#DBW/Mapmods/maps/_Tex/water/animated

place the 'FoamNV40.tga' file in the same place.

This version of carmaster's water mod does the same but is lighter on frs ... you might also wish to replace the foam texturewith the newer version, which can be downloaded from here on page 15
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,15180.168.html

Download it from avala's post. The new foam is worth the install. Place it in the same location as the original foam texture.

If you've installed the animated water, then you should have better frs rates when flying over water, rough water or not. The water also looks better in general. The lower you fly the less it may be apparent.

With the new foam texture, the opposite applies: the closer to the water you fly, the more you can see the detailed water effects of foamy waves. You can also see the difference with the previous foam texture, even in normal weather conditions.

This is a bit subtle as mod, but once you start paying attention over the course of several missions, you'll notice the difference.

Can someone tell me how shouldI install the mod? Theres no Readme in the file. many thanks.

Edit: I made it, Simply dragged the (CarsmasterWater v.3 14 beta ( NOT compatible OLC Water V2)), into the (#SAS) Folder :P
Looks much better than the previous one. Thanks.

I just installed this mod, and the water did not come out looking quite like the screenshots I've seen here:
(https://www.sas1946.rocks/images/imageshit/Himg683/il2fb2011122607084342.png)
(https://www.sas1946.rocks/images/imageshit/Himg39/il2fb2011122607103506.png)
(https://www.sas1946.rocks/images/imageshit/img546/4901/il2fb2011122607152559.png)
The wave animation itself is rough and jerky, but everything else runs perfectly smooth.
I installed it the way agracier said to and set the confi to water=4.  Could this be because of my graphics card (Radeon HD 6410D with 2014 MB memory) or is something in my confi.ini not set right?  I'm using DBW build 6

ATI cards don´t need water=4

See this post and try it ;) https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,15180.msg218863.html#msg218863

O.O

Thankyou so much!

I just have one more slight issue; when i look at the water from a moving plane at low altitude, the rippling seems to speed up. is that supposed to happen?

Hi... I just got a new computer (Asus CM6730) and this mod isn't working...  ??? It worked on my old computer, which was windows XP. This new one is windows 7. I tried water = 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, but no difference. I have 4.09m and UP 2.01. Please help!! I don't like the old ugly water.  :'(

According to the manufacturer site:

http://www.asus.com/Desktop/Entertainment/Essentio_CM6730/#specifications

he has

ATI Radeon™ HD 5450 1G or NVIDIA GeForce GT430 1G. That should run in perfect mode, so something other must be the problem.

In your conf.ini file, in the OpenGL section, check if you have this:

HardwareShaders=1

and is it 0 or 1? Should be 1.

For perfect mode:
VideoSetupId=2 (maximum) or 3 (nVidia only) or 8 (ATI only) or 17 (custom)

To run in perfect mode you must have this value

HardwareShaders=1

Try this
LandGeom=3

Anyway it's not related to perfect mode. I've read your quoted config.ini and with it + hardwareshaders set to 1  you should run IL2 in perfect mode.

Do you've take a look at the ingame video modes?

what Graphics card you have ?

I ask you before, if you have integrated graphics, you will not get perfect mode, it is different settings and problems for ATI and Nvidia cards, so what is you graphics card ?

you run DX or OpenGL ??

Do you have ATI or nVidia graphic card?

I saw this wrong settings in yours:
hardwareshaders=0 (1 for perfect mode)
water=1 (2 for ATI perfect mode or 4 for nVidia perfect mode)

Certainly your settings are wrong because you have this:
nVidia only settings:
Code: [Select]
TexFlags.TexEnvCombine4NV=1
TexFlags.DepthClampNV=1
TexFlags.TextureShaderNV=1

ATI card Id:
Code: [Select]
VideoSetupId=8

Yes, the ocean water always seemed to move to slow for me. I looked at it with 2x speed and it seemed much more natural.

Late reply, Sir..: Just copy and paste the associated files into your _Tex folder, like:
Files\maps\_Tex\water
Or...#DBW\MapMods\maps\_Tex

If you do not have such a folder like MapMods\maps\_Tex you have to create it..

So, the mod goes into wherever your maps\_Tex folder is.

Hope that helps. :D

Has to be set to "perfect" not "excellent". Also in the conf.ini it should be water=4. I don't think it is supposed to work with 4.11m anyway though.

in JSGME to can be activated at first. There you must activate the #UP#!

And you need a #UP# folder too in your main game-installation. In this folder you put your mods.

Sorry, my english isn't so good

In your game/ "Hardware Setup" set "Grafic Mode" ...Stencil Buffer" must be "on"!

"Grafic Options" set "Landdetails" (have a german version - don't know how called it in english) perfect!

set your conf.ini to 'read only' only after you set your settings and save. Game must NOT be running when you do!

  And Anisotropic = 8?? Why this difference? You rewrote the engine of IL-2, and silent?  :P

Good question.

I did a quick search and found a thread with Gumpy's conf.ini including FogHaze=4 ánd FogLow=1.  ???
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,23866.0.html (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,23866.0.html)

Both lines are not in my conf.ini so I should try them out to see what the difference is then.
Must be more than the regular fog that appears in the morning hours I suppose.

Those parameters are related to a mod, something like Config RealTime Changer...I think it comes from Aviaskins mates.

This mod allow to change on the flight many parameters via console plus introduce some values like FogHaze and FogLow.

FogLow - the height of the fog, maybe 1 or 2
FogHaze - the intensity of the mist, can be from 0 to 4. Where 0 is the thick fog

 This test parameters, they are not for conf.ini

SirSpamAlot: Not sure if it was explicitly mentioned with regard to your system and issues, I know it was mentioned several times in this thread:

For Ati cards, you need water=2 for maximum effects of best water and for NVidia water=4 ..in your config.ini in the [Render_OpenGL] settings.

I skipped the last 3 pages quickly and maybe you already did that.
Other than that, the various drivers may also cause different image results.

Cheers,
Tom

I suggest you to try Water with textures of 512 pixels.
I recommend to use together with High Resolution/True Color Textures Mod or with Light in the IL2 (beta)-2048.
This version of water demands the powerful videocard.
On weak videocards there can be friezes and low FPS! ! !

Attention!
Watch temperature your videocard! ! !
If it isn't pleasant to you, REMOVE IT! ! !

I edited a template of FoamNV40.tga foam of texture of AVALA.

I've installed your animated water mod, since it came out and it is first class.

One thing I didn't notice at first was the FoamNV40.tga texture. Apparently I didn't know enough back then to edit a load.ini so it would point to that particular new foam texture.

However, when i try it out on a map, I get an error message about a missing texture:  FoamNV40TL.tga.

Now, with trees, I know that a TL suffix means there is no mention of it in the load.ini, but that it is used somehow ... and I've not been able to find that texture anywhere in the download files.

So, obviously I am dong something wrong, but I can't figure out exactly what. I'd love to see how a different foam type looks. Any tips, hints, suggestions?

Not use name   FoamNV40TL.tga.

put in "conf.ini" parametr Water=4 ?
EDIT:
I did not make any changes to the file load.ini.
Sorry I do not understand you.

It's OK about the language ... I know it's difficult.

Anyway, I have water=4, and I do not get anything at all like the screenshots. I have never seen any kind of beautiful foam like that.

I put the FoamNV40.tga texture in the default folder for water, where other foam textures are. in the folder called  _Tex/water

Or should it be placed somewhere else? Or should it be renamed?

Unfortunately, it doesn't.
IL-2 doesn't have hardware shaders for Directx and without hardware shaders there isn't perfect waters effect with waves, foam and so on.

No dear SAS~Bombsaway, it is not so simple .... for example, I had before a NVidia 64bit card , I had installed the game in the 32bit x86 programs and the 3D and the foam effect not work  until I moved the whole  Il2 program in the  programs 64bit folder! Now I have bought a new computer, I have now a Nvidia GTX 660 I've reinstalled the game, I moved to the 64bit program folder and the 3D effect does not work again ... the setting is maximum and in "perfect mode" and  in "water 4" but the water now is absolutely flat and without foam ... as you can see there is something that blocks the function of 3D ... go figure!

Title: Re: Water=4
Post by: agracier on March 24, 2013, 08:33:24 AM
When you copy the new 'animated' folder into your _Tex/water folder, be careful not to copy OVER the existing folder. It is better to rename the existing 'animated' folder into something else, say for instance '-animated' ... then copy the new animated folder into the water folder, so that it contains nothing but the new files.

If you start to copy/replace, then perhaps some extra files may be left from the old water type and they might just conceivably mess things up ... you never know.

This might not be the cause of your problems, but better to check anyway ...

Try to change it manually in the config.ini file rather than ingame!
And make sure you have set your config.ini file to IIRC write protected whenever you have made changes and want them to stick, IIRC for some users that is mandatory.

Here is mine for DBW, AMD card and water=2 as necessary...

There are prolly some minor bugs in my setting but for water and this context and Open GL, all is set correct..

  I tried to make a mods folder got it in there but there is no All.ini file.

there is no MODS folder needed to be made,and the all.ini has nothing to do with this water Mod

I placed it in #DBW Mapmods Maps etc but it crashed.

It does not go into your MapMods folder,unless you yourself are dissecting the Mod to specifically put it in there
it should just be extracted to your #DBW folder like any other Mod

simply extract to your#DBW folder (#DBW-That is the MODS folder)>
#DBW/CarsmasterWater-512 v.0 02(3.17)

It will load before your MapMods folder

In your Config.ini set water to = 4 if you have an NVidea Card
set to water=2 for Ati/AMD

that is it

I would not think so,the water animation is in IL-2 by default
this Mod makes that better and really has nothing to do with maps on an individual basis

I would surmise since you just installed a map,the problem lies there
something wrong now with your all.ini if all your maps give load.ini errors after trying to install a map

hope that helps

OK boomer will have a look. Not too confident as yet with all the .ini files but will have a go.

So much to learn. Amazing

+1 on UP~Boomer...but, sometimes things can go wrong..

Tmansteve:
IIRC, this mod only contains files to go into Mods\MapMods\maps\_Tex\water...(or whereever your MapMods folder is located, e.g. #DBW\MapMods).
IIRC for HSFX or UP (older versions) the order used to be
Files\maps\_Tex\water

So, if your other maps do not load :-\  :P , maybe there was an error placing this mod or you used a version your system cannot support (IIRC there are numerous versions of this mod, e.g. I use a way earlier version..but as for maps not loading, not sure here. Usually, when you fork up the all.ini, the game will not start, you get a 70% crash IIRC.

Maybe try this, delete the mod (backup its files) and read pages 11/12-17 and pick the then current version, works for me. AFAIK there is only a Foam texture 'FoamNV40.tga' and the animated folder to go into Mods(or #DBW/#UP#MapMods/_Tex\water. Nothing to go into Mods. :-\

But I assume the current latest version should work without issues..if you have the correct config.ini entries. ;)

Again, pretty sure for DBW it goes into:
IL-2 1946\#DBW\MapMods\maps\_Tex\water.

At least that is how it works for me, not as seperate Mod to be loaded, but as integral part of the _Tex\water section.
So I would take the 'water' part out of this mod and put it into _Tex, allow to overwrite.
Or go one step further and take the animated folder and the Foam tex and put it into _Tex\water.

That must work. If not check your general settings and download another version of this mod.

Cheers Tom2.  I think i did all that but could be mistaken.  Will read those pages and see if it is a version conflict.  Not too worried about DBW because I use HSFX more.  Will have another look.

Bugger!!!!!

Title: Re: Water=4
Post by: SAS~Tom2 on June 12, 2013, 10:51:26 AM
I can answer that: For the Mods folder, the entire thing as the engine needs to read and follow the structure.
For the _Tex folder, only the water part aka "water\Animated" and "Foam...".

Ok now I'm having problems lol.  I have Modact 5.22 and 4.12.1 and I have gotten all other mods to work by putting a #_ in front of the folder name and dropping it in the #SAS file.  But that doesn't seem to work with Carsmaster's mod or Herra Tohtori's water mod.  And yes I tried putting the _Tex file in the MAPMODS folder in #SAS, and trying it with both water=1 and =4.  I appear to have the FoamNV40.tga file and the animations folder.  Is there anything else I am missing?
Title: Re: Water=4
Post by: Herra Tohtori on September 16, 2013, 07:18:01 PM
Easiest way to activate my water mod would be through JSGME since it is included there if you have the "SAS Featured JSGME Optional Mods for Modact 5.2x" installed. I recommend getting it from this post (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,36163.msg396289.html#msg396289)

Manually installing the water stuff in #SAS will also work, but you'll probably need to reshuffle the directory hierarchy within the water mod directory. Here's how it should work:

[#SAS]
|_[0_HT_Water]
   |_[Maps]
      |[_Tex]
        |_[water]
           |_[animated]
           |_FoamNV40.tga

If you're using the versions released earlier in the Blender Ocean thread, those are also designed for being put into JSGMEmods directory and activated through JSGME, so they have an internal directory structure that puts them in the MODS directory, rather than #SAS directory. They're outdated for 4.12 and SAS ModAct 5, but since they're still useful for people using 4.11+mods or even 4.10+mods, I've left them in place.

And yes, you can put the textures in ../IL-2 1946/#SAS/MAPMODS/Maps/Tex/water/animated/  ...if you really want.

But I would recommend getting the optional mods pack, it'll give you the least trouble and probably fastest game load since the water textures are encapsulated in SFS file.
Title: Re: Water=4
Post by: tripletrouble on September 16, 2013, 07:53:30 PM
I already have that installed.  Non of the options worked.  I had to put them all in manually.
Title: Re: Water=4
Post by: Herra Tohtori on September 16, 2013, 08:03:06 PM
Unless you had something else overriding them, I don't know why they wouldn't work.

Could you post a list of stuff you have in #SAS as well as JSGME?

Also could you elaborate in which sense the JSGME options didn't work. When you tried it, did you see stock water or something else?

Was this a clean 4.12.1 installation where you installed SAS ModAct 5?
Title: Re: Water=4
Post by: tripletrouble on September 16, 2013, 08:14:48 PM
Right now in my jsgmemods folder, that are activated are:
#SAS
#SAS_CTO Mod
#SAS_Forgotten Countries
#SAS_FOV Mod
#SAS_FX_Small Collection
#SAS_Random Belt Start Pos

I went straight from a clean 4.11-4.12.
All of my other mods downloaded are placed in my #SAS folder and the only ones I have under there, are all mostly from the optional mods pack.  I do have Grief11 109 cockpits, Red_Fox90's P-51 Overhaul, and Spinnetti's 109 model fix under the Il-2 1946 root folder and they all work.  All of which are on the 4.12 compatibility list.  I have no other water mods in place.
Title: Re: Water=4
Post by: tripletrouble on September 24, 2013, 02:49:09 PM
So I redid my whole Il-2 folder, uninstalled, deleted all the folders, re-installed and put all the patches back in + Modact 5.22, and even with optional pack, they still do not work.  All it does is add a perpendicular set of waves traveling in the same direction.  I have my graphics set to high and no other environment mods installed.  I tried with water=4 in conf, and =1, but still nothing.

Manually installing the water stuff in #SAS will also work, but you'll probably need to reshuffle the directory hierarchy within the water mod directory. Here's how it should work:

[#SAS]
|_[0_HT_Water]
   |_[Maps]
      |[_Tex]
        |_[water]
           |_[animated]
           |_FoamNV40.tga

This is not quite the correct file and folder structure for Foam.tga's
It should just be water/foam.tga (or FoamNV40.tga) and not actually in the water/"animated" folder

The foam .tga just sits in the water folder
#SAS/MapMods/maps/_Tex/water/foam.tga or foamNV40.tga

In the load.ini of a map under the [APPENDIX] header
is where you see the foam.tga being called on by the game(in red below)
You can see the game call's for it in just the water folder,where as the water/animated folder highlighted in Teal color has the "Noise.tga's" inside it
and there "kinda like" an animated Giff file in a way as they move or flicker back and forth>

[APPENDIX]
  HighClouds  =  Clouds256.tga
  HighCloudsNoise  = ag/Suomussalmi/LAL5_CloudsNoise.tga //CloudsNoise.tga
  Moon = Moon\Moon0000.tga
//  CloudsMap  = CloudMap4x4km.tga
  ShadeNoise = land/Noise.tga
  WaterNoise = water/WaterNoise.tga
  WaterNoiseAnimStart = Water/Animated/WaterNoise00.tga
  ForestNoise= forest/summer/ListForestNoise.tga
  BeachFoam  = water/Foam.tga
  BeachSurf  = water/BeachSurf.tga
  BeachLand  = water/RiverLand.tga
  Tree0 = Trees/AlteredBush8a.tga                                                    //ag/Suomussalmi/AlteredBush8a.tga  //dlv_summer1_AlteredBush8a.tga
  TreeLightMask = Trees/LightM256.tga

Keep in mind,the load.ini of the map would need to be calling on the FoamNV40.tga in order for the map to actually use that specific foam.tga
In the above load.ini I posted change/edit foam.tga to foamNV40.tga and have the foamNV40.tga in your MapMods/maps/_Tex/water folder

only other way to get that map and or all your maps using that specific foam.tga would be then to rename the foamNV40.tga to just foam.tga and place it in the _Tex/water folder to overwrite or override the default foam.tga

hope that helps

Cheers

wasn't sure if you renamed anything or not,I was more answering the other guy asking questions anyway

either,either or....
the maps load.ini needs editing to use foamNV40.tga or the file needs to be renamed to suite the name of the maps foam.tga used in the load.ini
one or the other

Two things come to mind looking at those screenshots.

1. You don't have the shaders enabled. I don't know if you have good enough graphics card to run them, but you should post your computer specs (specifically the graphics card model), and I or someone else will help you set up your conf.ini to get the most out of the water (and other) graphics. Unless you specifically want to use the old water?

2. The top picture looks a lot like Carsmaster's water, but I can't be sure. If so, then that would suggest you have those mod files lying around somewhere in your installation. In that case, they would override the SFS based mod. On the other hand when you install my mod manually, THAT will in turn override Carsmaster's water mod, probably due to loading order.

Could you confirm if the top image shows how the water looks when you try to use "stock" water? I haven't looked at the "flat", non-shader water in a long time, so I can't be sure whether that's the stock water or Carsmaster's (even though I suspect the latter).

To know for sure, run a search for certain files in your IL-2 directory tree when you have my water mod disabled. Searching for "WaterNoise00.BumpH" or "WaterNoise00Dot3.tga" should reveal if you have a forgotten installation of another water mod somewhere in your system.

Having the usual troubles with a fresh IL2 installation I decided to post a short

Installation-Instruction

 for all those who has an

ATI-Card and UP3RC4:

1) Paste carmasters water-mod in the folder "jsgmemods" in the root of IL2. Activate  carmasters water-512 in Generic mod enabler.
2) Open conf.ini and change HardwareShaders to 1 in the section [OpenGL] ("HardwareShaders=1")
3) Change Water to 2  in the section [OpenGL] ("water=2")
4) You also can try to set "VideoSetupId=10" for ATI-Card (or "8" with ATI Radeon X800/9800/9700/9600/9500 and "9" with ATI Radeon 8500/9000)

Enjoy water-mod!

My mod doesn't replace Carsmaster's mod, nor does it work with it.

Both my mod and Carsmaster's are a replacement of the stock water.

You can only use one at a time. While having more than one activated in JSGME does not exactly cause any errors or crashes, it is redundant - if you have more than one activated, then the game will decide which one it uses based on loading order, so only one of them will end up being used.

Maybe search for Files/Mapmods/maps and insert map relevant files (Tex/Water) manually there as well..HSFX has a different map loading convention IIRC. :-\ ;).  Config.ini needs to be at Open GL running and water=2 for AMD , water=4 for NVidia set.

No, it is not as easy as you think .. think that for more than two years since I changed my graphics card I am no longer able to get the tridimensional waves  nor foam .. despite my poor attempts at conf. and on my card the waves remain woefully flat !!

The important settings:

[Render_OpenGL]

HardwareShaders=1

Water=2 for AMD
Water=4 for NVidia

If these do not stick, make sure your config.ini is set to read.only. IIRC that was a trick in case the config.ini does not keep your entries.

Sorry I cannot help.

If you put the mod in #sas/Mapmods/Maps/tex its not gonna work.
Example for a correct path: #SAS/CarsmasterWater-512 v.0 02(3.17)/Maps/_Tex/water/FoamNV40.tga

But I'd rename this

CarsmasterWater-512 v.0 02(3.17)

to this

CarsmasterWater-512

The other thing is that you have to select a weather setting Hazy or worse in order to get the weather dependant wave types. In clear and good weather the wave animation will be different only, I think. I'm using an older version of this mod and I did not notice major difference except in the amount of whitecaps on waves. Btw water=4 is not a requirement, I'd suggest water=3 for best performance. This is a "simple" texture replacement mod for stock stuff so it should work in any game version and modpack without any issue.

 :(You're right, Carsmaster's Water 4 mod seems simple but it's not at all ... for example I have two installations, on Win7 it works well only if I install the game in the Programs folder while in the Programs folder (x86) the waves are horribly flat ! I also installed Il2 on Win10 but I can't get the foam on the crests of the waves! I tried to change all the possible parameters on the video card but the foam never appears ..... I think the limit is inherent in the main Il2 engine and I gave up. Best wishes, maybe the Befana will bring you some surprises! ;)

You should not install any game in the Program Files folder. Install it into C:\Games.

This mod requires OpenGL/Perfect mode and of course a graphics card with a newer driver. No adjustment in the Nvidia control panel is required. If you want you can turn on AA and AF, but its optional.

In the conf.ini you must have these lines (Nvidia)

Quote
[GLPROVIDER]
GL=Opengl32.dll

[GLPROVIDERS]
Open GL=Opengl32.dll
DirectX=dx8wrap.dll

[Render_OpenGL]

TexFlags.TexEnvCombine4NV=1
TexFlags.TexEnvCombineDot3=1
TexFlags.DepthClampNV=1
TexFlags.SeparateSpecular=1
TexFlags.TextureShaderNV=1

HardwareShaders=1
