Title: [BETA] AMT L-39C Version 4.2 (11/12/11) [4.09] [4.10] [4.11]
Post by: F22-Raptor-2006 on November 21, 2011, 04:31:22 PM
The Aviator Mod Team and Ferté Alais Virtuelle presents the L-39C! Please note this is a Work In Progress.

This mod has been developed and managed by the Ferté Alais Virtuelle for their project.

air.ini:
L-39C             air.L39C 1                                    r01   SUMMER

Download: https://storebror.it.cx/sas/archive/sas2/AMT/L-39C_V4.7z (If you have installed previous versions, please delete the old L-39C folder before installing this newer version)

Version 4.2 Patch: (Includes 4.1)
https://storebror.it.cx/sas/archive/sas2/AMT/L-39C_Patch_4.2.7z (Delete old L-39C folder before installing, includes L39_Default pilot skin and UV map). Please note that original pilot skins are no longer compatible. The area around the face has now changed. For this reason a default pilot skin is provided. For ease of use please try and stick to L39_***.bmp for pilot skin names. 256x256 bitmap and if I remember correctly there must be no spaces in the file name or it will cause crashes.

Please note if you are using UP3 you will need DiffFM. If you are using DBW you will not need DiffFM as it is already there in the base installation. Other mod packages/setups have not been tested and are not supported.
DiffFM: https://storebror.it.cx/sas/archive/sas2/AMT/000_DiffFm_UP3.0RC.7z (Thanks to ton414)

It is recommended to use this custom lights mod: https://storebror.it.cx/sas/archive/sas2/AMT/00_Lights.7z (Thanks to santobr and Nightshifter)

It appears that the large majority of people are missing the #UP# Sample Folder files as since it is not available on their website readme you can download it here: https://storebror.it.cx/sas/archive/sas2/AMT/Raptor/_UP_SampleFolder.rar (Install aircraft as you would normally, #UP# folder is now your MODS folder.)

Features:
- New 3D.
- New Flightmodel.
- Dual seat works online, you can jump into the back seat and join in the ride.
- Dual Ejection seats.
- Opening Canopies.

Changelog

Version 4.2:
- New pilot head. Mapped onto pilot skin. (UV Map and new default pilot skin included in patch)
- New default skin by Phas3e.
- Moved WingTip vortex hooks.

Version 4.1:
- Instructor (back seat pilot) will now turn head and look around at random.

Version 4:
- Fixed second ejector seat 3D bug.
- Second pilot can now also bailout.
- Ejector seats fitted to both pilot positions, instructor ejects first if the seats are used.
- Fixed canopy animation and added second canopy animation.
- Removed trainer loadout, now comes default with 2 pilots.
- Small updates to flightmodel.
- Fixed flap fully lowered angle, 44 degrees.
- Flap usage limited to 310kmh TAS and lower.
- Automatic airbrake deployment at 0.78 mach (varies at different altitudes, ~ 950 kmh at sea level and ~ 850 kmh at high altitude)
- Updated tip tank mapping, both sides are no longer mapped to one identical location, they are now split up. (New UV map: https://storebror.it.cx/sas/archive/sas2/AMT/TipTankMap.7z)
- Folder split for L-39 Sounds, these will not be changing in the foreseeable future and so future uploads will only include main folder.

This aircraft has been designed for aerobatics, as such it has no guns or things like damage models. Please feel free to play with it and report any bugs or comments about the flightmodel etc... Note that the real life engine takes 9 seconds or so to go to full power, this one has been modified to 3 seconds for aerobatic purposes. It is likely a separate flight model will be made that will use the civilian engine that is less responsive closer towards the final product. Pink_Tigger is experiencing computer problems and is currently away so there are some limitations to what can be done on the 3D side at the moment. Hopefully when he comes back these problems can be resolved.

Progress:

Additional Features: (to be implemented)
- Cockpit (Aymi)
- Airshow smoke (Cannot be changed until final UP3 comes out)

- Green tail light must be changed to white. (Cannot be changed until final UP3 comes out)
- Rear canopy is ejected during bailout even though canopies are open.

in this Beta, there's no skin included... we are still working about 8 différents skin of existing acrobatic team ... will be release in final ..

by the way, you can have a visual effect of 2 people on board by choosing "training" on loadout... and you can enter in backseat ... but rear cockpit hasn't been developped still now so you re only see same as pilot ...

This looks like a nice plane. Maybe someday the weaponized version will also grace our airfileds, but for now....
While looking her over, I found this small problem with the aft ejection seat. Just thought I'd let you know. I also noticed you said the canopy animation was not quite correct. Does that mean thatwhen in the cockpit, you open the canopy, it appears you are actually in the back seat and the front canopy opens?

No, that is an issue with where the cockpit is placed but I won't be trying to fix that until we get the new cockpits since there's no point. If you look at the canopy from external view, you will see that it folds but not quite on the hinge. It is inline with the hinge only from above, not from the side. From the side you see that part of the blister is sticking up and part of it is inside the plane.

It flies quite well, good performances, nice controls. When real cockpit available I think this gonna be THE aerobatic jet in Il-2.

May be with time we can change 3D for various models, even with same FM, English Hawk, French Alpha Jet, Spanish C-101, so we have the main aerobatic jets around there :). Would be nice see virtual meetings with that.

btw if you use the lightmod provided in the first post, you will get more realistic nav light effects as well as landing lights. So it looks more like the real life one which isn't such a bright light like the one in your first picture, but glows white, as well as the flashing strobe lights on the wingtips.

Any more comments on things like flightmodel etc are welcome, open beta test so we can develop this plane further with the communities reactions and comments.

Just a few details on the current flightmodel regarding performance:
Stall speed no flaps: 190 kmh approx
Stall speed full flaps: 170 kmh approx
Max level speed @ 0m: 680 kmh or so around there
Max level speed @ 5000m: 750 kmh approx

+10  I want every skin you showed here :D.

Yesterday first attempts on aerobatics, some easy things, taking off, level flight, some turns, loops, barrell roll, landing. It's really stable but you have control over it, mostly it fly where you want it to fly without jumps of any class. Really nice to fly, good performances for aerobatics.

Only notice a couple of things. During taking off (close formation) at high speed rolling it seemed to have less than better lateral control on ground. Taxiing at low speed is quite good. And for a moment, about 280Km/H while flaps was on travel to landing position (gear down, flaps previous in combat position) nose tends to rise too much and trim to full down wasn't able to sustain it. When flaps in position aircraft suddenly falls too much, I think, and too much suddenly. May be all those effects a little bit exaggerated, but I don't know the real thing for sure. During flight may be trim control not on it's finest yet. And of course all of that compared to the general level of refinement of this FM, bad ground control at high speed, or poor trim are quite often in lots of aircraft, but they are not intended for aerobatics. Fixing that you will have simply the best modelled aircraft :).

Raptor, Sadman also is very pleased with the aircraft, we like it a lot. All of you did a great job mate ;).

ManOWar, I've done quite a lot of flying with the flightmodel. I don't have any troubles with the trim or any nose pitch up during landings. The current settings does not shift the Centre of gravity much when you put flaps down, if you put gears down at the same time it will also negate the cg shift. Trim to full down will easily make the plane go nose in at any speed for me, during normal flight to keep level or to make it nose down slightly for formation flying I only turn the wheel very slightly. If you want we can jump in a server and test tonight. I've been flying with the VFA guys as well and haven't noticed any problems with them during landing, done multiple landing tests during pitch black time as well to test landing light angle/distance.

Has anyone else had any pitch up problems with full landing flaps?

No, as I said was only for a moment while flaps in transit, then all came back to normal. And I notice while trying to maintain close formation, if in a normal landing I didn't notice probably a great change. But may be it was my controls config, or something like that, cause of that I wanted to comment it ;).

Tonight I'm not sure if I can, but may be we can met with Sadman, may be Tuckie also, and make some test if you want. I have to see when is possible.

no.And where to install it?

Please read the instructions, firstly you need UP3. Then DiffFM. Install into #UP# folder both the L-39C mod and DiffFM mod. Add air.ini entry under STD folder. If you don't have #UP# folder etc then it can also be found on first post. The lights mod is optional but will make the mod more realistic and installs into the same location. We currently do not support other mod packs apart from UP3.

Alternatively DBW does the trick too, in that case you don't need DiffFM.
The L-39C works perfectly fine in my DBW install.

Okay thanks for the confirmation mike, it's just that we haven't tested it at all in DBW before and as I don't have it myself I have no idea whether it would work. Will update the first post.

Also the Flight Model will be given some more testing by the Virtual Patriots Jet Team in the coming weeks. They have all flown in the L-39C in real life.

raptor very good job, this great, I can not adapt to the flight model, you can close a lot of spins on its axis, but if you close much the plane stalls very easily, considering that it is a beta

is a great idea for us to bear the opportunity to test your work and progress against DEVELOPING going, now we have more like a final version;)

and only remains to give us the opportunity to try mig21, F14, F4 etc ....

Raptor thank you very much

Muchas Gracias Raptor

I'm not sure what you mean with the flight model, it's one of the hardest planes to spin and stall in the game currently. You can pull as much as you want and it won't spin unless you're at a really low speed.

my intention was not negative criticism

sorry for my English, but use the google translator, I wanted to say that the plane at low speed can rotate on its axis too and that makes the airplane very easy to stall, do not criticize the flight model, why not know the real model of this plane. is a nice plane to fly at high speed maneuver shortly. and low speed maneuvering is powerful, but you have to get used. for me is a bit dificl make some acrobatic maneuvers, loops are a bit difficult to make them perfect and not go into stall

___________________________________________

Okay, for things like loops you need to start with 550-600 kmh. 80% to 90% throttle. Start pulling until you are pulling 4G. Hold it there until going vertical, then add more pull as you go higher. On top release pull a bit and hold it there, gently release pull to end up at the same altitude as where you started.

Absolutely bloody marvelous thankyou very much.....can i just add that Helen os trained for real in an f-5.... her English isn't that good so i'm going to write for her what she has to say rather than have her struggle with it....

It is very responsive, feels very good to fly, has good trim and a well balanced aircraft and although there is difference between the L39-C and an F5 it has a very realistic feel to it and about as close to the real thing as is probably possible in a pc sim, it just feels right and if she were to pick an aircraft to fly upside down under a bridge this would be it.......Helen

So there you have it from an x fighter pilot ;)

regards Blumax and Helen-of-Sparta

thanks blumax :), I'm glad she likes it, we will also have some L-39 pilots test it later. Oh and soon enough she'll also be able to fly the F-5 that she trained on if all goes well ;)

Wow, that would also be one of my 2 favourite jets from the 60s to 80s era! :)

I would love to learn that, Helen-of-Sparta.  :)

ATM I "learn" to fly the F-16 in a sim with the most realistic flight model ever made publicly available (based on NASA FM research and F-16 pilots input).

But the F-5 is my favourite for the pre-F-16 era (with the F-104 and F-100) and one of my alltime beloved jets.  :D

WiP template as theres some very nice schemes out there I want to try, the striped camo Shark mouthed ones are a must try, plus its about as close as I'll get to flying an RNZAF MB339

Cool, thanks a lot for this  :)

But it doesn't work for me unfortunately...
First, I'm using DBW 1.6, working of course.
Downloaded unzipped and installed it, air ini ok, game loads.
BUT : QMB view doesnt show up, I get a click but stay on QMB. Then loading the game, I get this strange landscape, no cockpit, and not even an AI plane (like in some QMB bugs) when hitting next enemy view. Tried different maps, different Missions (Advantage, scrampble etc..), no change. But when changing the plane all is ok.
I thought of a corrupt download, so I redownloaded, but no joy.

Ah yes, also when upacking (7z) I get errors that the files (located in 3DO/Plane/L39(multi1)/) damage1o, damage1p, damage2o, damage2p, skin1o, skin1p, skin1q, and one or two other skin1o are damaged. Can't copy the exact message, but something is definitely broken.

What do you think ? redownload again ?

umm that's weird, I just tried and have no errors... with the file. Sounds like possibly wrong folder structure in the mods area. or check the log.lst if you have log=1 and logkeep on in config file.

Folder structure should be ok, I got L-39C, then 3do, presets, samples and the classfiles, inside 3do Cockpit and plane, in plane I've got L-39C(Multi1) and there finally the summer folder and the files like "AroneL_D0" etc... Anyting wrong with that ?

And here is the log file :

Update coming soon in the next few days.

It will feature updated canopies with correct animation as seen in picture below.
Updated tip tank mapping, left and right will be separate.
Fixed full flap angle (44 degrees, previously 45)
Flaps will not be deployable unless under 310 kmh TAS.
Airbrake will auto deploy upon reaching 0.78 mach.
Small updates to flightmodel.
Perhaps there will be working ejector seats.

Post by: F22-Raptor-2006 on November 28, 2011, 12:11:25 PM
Update! Version 4 now released, please see first post!

Changelog:

The so called loadouts seen in GJE52's picture are only for visual effect and are a result of hier.him file editing. Hence at this time they do not actually work, just a bit of eye candy. The L-39C will never have any weapons, only 2 droptanks as a dedicated trainer and private aircraft. GJE52's work will be involved with another mod to be announced later.

Hi Raptor!

I test V4.
At new UV mapped WingTipTanks and WingTipNavLights, I feel mapping Left/Right reversed?
Left/Down side Tank/Light in skin is used Right side in 3D.
Right/Down side Tank/Light in skin is used Left side in 3D.

The wing tip pod mapping has changed and so will not work properly with the older skins.

This is the nature of any Work in Progress and a good skinner will take the new template that has been provided at the link on page 1 of this thread and revise and their skins accordingly.

GJE52

Yes. I see this is WIP project and mapping is temporary one.
So, if it is able or easy, I request TipTank and NavLight mapping swap left - right.
At skin, left Tank and Light is mapped left, right Tank snd Light is mapped right, this is feld natural to me.
At this L-39C skin, left wing is mapped left, right wing is mapped right in upper area, so...

It is not worth the effort to change that. It doesn't even really make a difference. I'm sure one can figure out which side is which, and well if they can't then they shouldn't be making a skin. I am really critical about small things as GJE52 will tell you whenever he makes a 3D object I always say something about this or that lol, but that mapping change is not necessary.

Awesome work!

Maybe it does work with the Transfer Controls option, but I don't know if it's fully implemented...

Title: Re: [BETA] AMT L-39C Version 4.1 (29/11/11)
Post by: F22-Raptor-2006 on December 01, 2011, 10:09:47 AM
As far as I'm aware a "transfer controls" option does not exist. If it does I'll be happy to implement what's needed to the aircraft. However from what I understand this is not possible, neither do gauges fully function in the second pilot seat.

EDIT: Okay I looked it up in the MDS and there is this option, it must be enabled in the mission file though. You will find me with the same name (F22-Raptor-2006). I will need someone else in hyperlobby with version 4.1 to test this... They also need to be capable of hosting the mission.

P.S. Use of control transferral demands much more network traffic.

EDIT 2: Tried in multiplayer. I believe there are some bugs with the current MDS code and control transfer. Yet to test it with control transfer off, but with control transfer on. It is possible to hijack the controls, without the guy in the main pilot seat giving you the controls. When he gives you the controls your joystick is still disabled because you are a crew member. So you must use keyboard. Keyboard strokes only work for 1 second, after that you must press the key again etc... Joystick is disabled the whole time no matter what, as long as you are a crew member it is disabled. Based on this theory, it would be possible for any crew member to take control of your plane by simply using the keyboard controls when they jump into your plane... regardless of whether control transfer is enabled.

Great Work Guys, waitin ' impatiently for the final release.
My question is: when we can expect original L-39 cockpit? /  ('cause for me new plane = new cockpit as a one part ).
Thank You.

Admin EDIT: None of these when/release date questions please. See: http://www.aviatormodteam.xtreemhost.com/main/newapp.html#WIP

F22-Raptor-2006,

Thank you very much for adding one exceptional new ride to IL-2. It's real fun flying this baby! Love the engine sound too and with the instructor keeping his "head on a swivel", I know we will never have trouble seeing and avoiding traffic ;). Great work!

Cheers,

Riptide

As said previously, you need to be running DBW or UP3. IL2 1956 installations on modAct should also work. Without one of these 3 things it will not.

Perhaps, not a priority but yes that would be nice to get a better pilot model, just really the head area that needs changing.

Perhaps a suggestion? Would it be possible to model the pilot's helmet the same way it is done on the F-84, with the helmet included on the skin template? That would allow "Customization" for the different aerobatic teams and other units or pilots flying the aircraft.

Well I can tell you now it certainly flies nothing like one considering this is a straight wing aircraft wheras the MiG-21 is a high stall speed, low lift pencil effectively XD Anyway by christmas you will find out.

Yep grant you've got the right idea. Just need to look at what helmet or head is around about correct, would rather not model one from scratch unless it's really needed, perhaps even the helmet from the MiG-21 will work we shall see after a further comparison. There are areas for it to be skinnable probably without having to move internal mapping to other places but yeah we shall see when the time comes.

For the helmet, what about the one from the F-86, the red one ? I think it looks good.

Thanks grant, that's basically the shape that I meant.

Looks good mess, sorry I wasn't availble to join in. I've been in discussion with guys from FTV about the flightmodel. It is currently fine for normal flying but for formation flying there are still a few adjustments to be done at least. A possible bug that was discussed is a sudden increase in pull from around 3G onwards, otherwise known as a bump when we fly in formation. This was also noticed in earlier versions of their MB-339 and we will be working together to make the flightmodel more formation friendly. However do remember that closer to the final release the engine acceleration will probably be changed to the more appropriate 12 second delay, rather than the current 3. So there won't be much use of throttle in formation.

Coming soon in Version 4.2

Once I have all the files sorted I will upload it. The helmet and pilot skin are changeable and transferred over the net by changing the "pilot" in the arming screen.

Update 4.2! see first post.

Version 4.2:
- New pilot head. Mapped onto pilot skin. (UV Map and new default pilot skin included in patch)

Well if you can find evidence of L-39C with smoke coming out of the exhaust that isn't airshow smoke then I'll be happy to change it ;)

I said smoke that "isn't airshow smoke" as in general exhaust fumes from the engine ;) However from all pictures and videos I cannot see evidence for any smoke to come out from the back of the engine during normal running.

The L-39C never had any weapons. Only at trainer. Later alternatve versions will be made with the ability to carry AIM-9L/M missiles as well as a HUD. Only single seat.

Epervier, you are welcome to convert it to 4.09 if you wish as you do with other mods. However it uses some 1956 stuff so it would require conversion of some parts of IL2 1956 as well. We ourselves will not be doing these conversions, it's just too much time to support an out of date version as well especially when we don't necessarily have 4.09 installed.

I have added two special class (supersonic & GSuit). They function without altering the 409 (apparently!). They can certainly be used for other aircraft of the same kind ...
But for now there is no cockpit... it is above the cockpit which poses problems for converting 410/409!
So the 409 version is also WIP!  :D

Warnings!
- This version is only to allow users 4.09 to see and appreciate the work done on this plane.
- This conversion 4.09 is identical to the original version 4.10/4.1
- I would not do any updates until the aircraft is WIP.
- I do not provide any technical support for this version 409.
- There is a version for users of SAS-buttons and a version for users of the C6-buttons.

Thank you to the authors of this beautiful plane!

Thanks for this beauty plane ....

I have some problems after install L-39C 4.2, I can´t play without deleting the P-61 V2.
The game run and loads fine, I can see planes and select skins for both, but when I select a mission and press fly, it hangs.

I use 4.10.1m UP3.RC4, log doesn´t seem to explain details but I am not an expert.

Personally I'd say your log file has nothing to do with either the L-39 or the P-61. Unless the P-61 has some swordfish thing related to it, because the L-39 does not. I would say the P-61 is causing problems itself. That or their's a whole new problem altogether unrelated to either aircraft but rather to the mission file.

Thank you very much.

I haven´t cache files in folder,(I never check in Loader too).
I suppose both models doesn´t use swordfish related, (I must have somthing wrong with the P-61), but I have wrote for possible ideas or help.

Deleting P-61 from "AIR.INI" the log is the following

Hello

P-61 must have issues with a preiously modded P-39 installed.
Now both, P-61A&B V2 and AMT L-39C, are running fine.

Thanks

Hello guys. Can anyone write how to install L-39 step by step?
I'm using UP 3.0 RC4 and I have no air.ini for example...
I'll really appreciate your help.
Thanx in advance!

Borowcyk:
I will try :D (donot use UP)..correct me guys and gals if I mess up, I just want to help the fella, I don't use this mod ATM ;). I admit the description sucks.

I leave out the custom lights mod here and focus on the plane:

It should be very simple:

Download the folders shown on page 1.
Unzip them to any place on your harddrive you like.
Be sure to have your UP 3 version of the game activated via JSGME!
In your install, find your  "#UP#" named folder.

In your "L-39C_V4" named folder...take the "L-39 Sounds" and the "L-39C" named folders and put those into your  #UP'# named folder.

That was step one.

Now to the patch:
Open "L-39C_Patch_4.2" ..take the "L-39C" folder in it and copy it into .."IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\#UP#". if asked to overwrite click "yes to all".

Then take the "L-39C_Patch_4.2" "PaintShemes" folder and copy and paste it into your main IL-2 1946 install, if asked to overwrite, say "yes to all".
Or, simply..take the "\L-39C_Patch_4.2\PaintSchemes\Skins\Pilots" folder and put that into your "\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\PaintSchemes" folder, allow to overwrite with "yes to all" if asked.

There is only one pilot skin file here which needs to be placed into the ".. whatever name you chose IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\PaintSchemes\Pilots" folder.

Now you still need the air.ini entry.

You must have a folder named "STD" in the main installs "IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\#UP#" folder.

Now go there, open in this way...."IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\#UP#\STD\com\maddox\il2\objects..
In that #UP#\STD\com\maddox\il2\objects-folder, open the air.ini.-...

Take the line
L-39C             air.L39C 1                                    r01   SUMMER

And copy it into your air.ini..for that you need to have opened the air.ini with notepad or simply double click on it.

E.g. copy and paste the above line below

FJ3M_Fury         air.FJ_3M 1                           NOINFO  usa01 SUMMER

....so you will have it directly below another jet set.

Finally, take the (from first page) "000_DiffFm_UP3.0RC" folder. Open it...(it is doubled setup), take "000_DiffFm_UP3.0RC" in it (yes, same name  ::) )...and put it into your main IL-2 1946 install's:

"jsgmemods" folder.
Activate with "JSGME.exe".

It may be better to simply put it into "IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\#UP#"..but I would try the first method first.

You know you screwed up if the game won't load or crashes at 60% e.g.

Good Luck, argh, that was a long time typing. :-[ ;)

The fastest way and easiest way to install a mod is to actually read what it says. I know it's your first post so don't worry but for future reference everything you urgently need to know is on the first post.

Can't find air.ini? This was written in the first post:

It appears that the large majority of people are missing the #UP# Sample Folder files as since it is not available on their website readme you can download it here: https://storebror.it.cx/sas/archive/sas2/AMT/Raptor/_UP_SampleFolder.rar (Install aircraft as you would normally, #UP# folder is now your MODS folder.)

Sorry for my English, but I have a question about this airplane.

This aircraft has no weapon as the SUU-11 as it had the A1J plane or you could make it so that it has weapons on board as a mini-gun and a rocket launcher? If there are problems with the weapons because of the versions it would be possible to make it so that you then weapons from the 2nd World War II can assemble the aircraft.

And another question can someone make it so that the version with the weapons for the L-39C and so is the version 4:09.?

Just a heads up to anyone using this on 4.12 as I am, you'll need SAS Engine Mod (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,37774.0.html) to run this without needing the 4.11 version for 4.12. Not sure of the differences between the 4.11 version in 4.12 but I thought I'd let everyone know.

4.12 tag can be added to first post btw.
