The WWI Somme map is made using Zuti's friction values
There are a few blankplates on some airfields ,but they're on there to remove the odd Random Tree group.
placing any object will remove Random tree's for a certain area around the object,
blankplates cover a large area

Nobody has reported not being able to take off do to not a smooth airfield,
most are using SAS Activated installs I think or UP 2.01
If you have the Somme map ,open the load.ini and at the bottom you will see the friction values and coordinates of each airfield.
This actually changes the friction,or cohesion of the airfield surface in a map.
You can also add the friction values ete to the end of a .mis file
but you may need the Mod installed then
I am not sure,I have only used the friction values in load.ini's
So far have not needed to add any mod for the airfields to work correctly with no bumps.
By changing the friction Value
you can get a very hard concrete surface,
or ease it back a bit to simulate a grassy field with some gently bumps in a way.
I feel it is the way to go with a map,
and as long as the values are set in the load.ini
I have not had any complaints about bumpy fields
