so, back i the XP days, I had multiple IL2 installs, but always had to do at least one install from disc for it all to work. So I've got my modded install folder on the desktop (doesn't work) and tried a clean install of IL2 1946 from the original DVD... The installer kicks off and asks me for language - then hangs.  Nothing, nada. How the heck can I get it to "go"? Do I need to run as administrator? compatibility mode? Tried both with same result. I know people have this thing working, so what's the trick? I searched other threads, but didn't see the same issue - folks got it installed but not running, but mine won't even install? Everything is up to date, patches etc...

Execute "a.exe" from inside the disk, by hand.

Oh I remember me pulling my hair out to get it installed when I first got '46, it was this 'a.exe' all along, haha!

Ok, after a couple reboots, it did indeed install as normal - Thanks a bunch!

Now, its installed but doesn't run - seems to kick off, then nothing... ideas?

Copy and paste it outside of program files, i keep mine in a folder on the desktop. In program files win7 will not allow changes to conf.ini etc. Perhaps that is part of your problem?

Thanks.. I installed it to the root of C:\IL2
Also tried to run as administrator...
No love yet, but still trying stuff (Trackir doesn't work either)

Hello,

I had problems with this on my x64 Win 7 machine as well. The solution is to go to securom's site and download an updater for securom.  The game works after doing that. https://support.securom.com/analysis.php You need the securom diagnostic & analysis tool.

P.S. Apparently this problem is unique to Win7 x64 (and possibly the 64-bit version of vista as well) since the version of securom used with IL-2 1946 doesn't seem to work on 64-bit operating systems

Thanks, but I have the USA version which doesn't use that maybe? I finally got it installed, but it won't run. I'm going to try to re-install windows and try one more, and if that doesn't work, just give up I guess and go back to XP.

I used another rig with Win XP to install Il2, then moved it to my 1tb storage disk, switched it to my Win7 64b PC, moved the entire game folder to my desktop, dloaded and installed this no-cd patch and voillá... works like a charm for me... And i keep a clean 4.09 copy of the game in my storage disk as backup.

I would check it for suckurom, some of the "US" versions were imports, I've seen others swear it was US, then find out otherwise.
