SAS Buttons with the Allison
« on: August 31, 2010, 03:41:57 AM »

Heya Gents.

I have a question about the SAS buttons im using in amongst my mods.

I've been re working my P-38 sound mod to work with Tigers mod. By renaming things, so it picks it up. But I noticed once I was complete with that. The P-38 uses the normal Allison sounds from IE a P-40 or P-39.

Is this a problem with the buttons file?

Thanks for your help.

hi Cipher
it's not the buttons, that i'm sure of.
iirc, Tiger's sounds uses some some specific classfiles, that's why it's not going to be easy to incorporate his sounds in another sound mod. the fly-by sound, for instance, works with its own specific classfiles, and will be really difficult to get to work properly with any other sound mod.
then, also have a look at the sound matrix that we have available in the buttons thread - it's easy enough to identify which sound is using which file, and vice versa....but this is all stuff you know already, isn't it?  ;)
if you're still stuck after going through that, then post again here....

Well I wouldn't be surprised if they share the same engine sounds... they may use different versions of allison engines but they all use one set of sounds I think...

Actually P-38s should sound differently from P-40s, because their Allison engines were turbo-charged, and that is the way it should be in Tiger_33's original mod; now if preset calls and preset names have been merged or their number reduced to simplify the Buttons, you have the same sounds. So there could be issues with the Buttons; the same is also to be checked for P-47s vs F-4Us: P&W R-2800 turbo-charged should sound differently than the "normal" R-2800.

If you would look at the soundmatirx, you would be able to see exactly what prs file is used by what plane. I am not at home, and going purely from memory here, but I think that the P38s use the same motor prs file as the P39s, while the p40s have their own. Now, in your specific soundmod, the mod may use the same wavefiles between the two possibly, making the prs file a placeholder. The point is, a soundmodder could create a customised soundset for it if he wanted to, because it does use a (more or less) unique prs file, which can be easily identified with the soundmatrix.

Is the sound matrix part of the buttons or a different file all together. And to clear things up I am using Tigers sound mod. I placed my mod files with the correct folder layout into the MODS folder. Jafa's new Napier Sabre sounds work fine with that type of install. I figured it would with mine but obviously it was the latter.

So, this is what it can be:

Tigers sound mod is using a form of class file which do not use the allisontb files for the 38. Instead they use the normal Allison instead. Despite the PRS files containing the correct information to use the allisontb sounds for the 38.

hi Cipher, the soundmatrix is a separate download, in the first post of the buttons thread. http://www.whatwalrus.com/buttons/SAS_Soundfile_Reference_Matrix_v5.0.xls
basically an excel spreadsheet showing all the sound file relations.  ;)

Well I had a look and its not really telling me much apart from different names for PRS files. Says here in the sheet that basically all Allison aircraft follow the V1700 series. In Tigers sound mod. Theres theses PRS Files: Allison, Aillsontb, and biAllisontb.

yeah, this is the problem with Tiger's sounds....not easily modded, because he's made specific presets, etc that only work with his sound mod.....
i am talking from memory here, i didn't use Tiger's mod much - awesome, epic sounds, but there were a few little issues that i didn't like. for instance, the fantastic flyby sounds......i was hoping that when i used F3 with 100 B-17's flying past, i would hear enough noise to break my pc.... ;D....but you only hear one awesome B17 flying past, and the others all fly past in complete silence....killed the immersion for me, unfortunately... :(
as far as sounds go, though, i take nothing away from the fact that his sounds are really epic... 8)

Yep, I pop around here and there. Few things come out more here than at AAS. And in case I need help with any thing I have SAS related. Thats why I have a SAS account in all fairness.
