In 1937 the government of Estonia ordered twelve Spitfire Mk.I's from the UK.
They would never serve in Estonia, but finally in 1939 the 260th and 261st production aircraft L1046 and L1047 were earmarked for the Estonian contract. As events in Europe unfolded they were delivered into storage at St Athan. It has been written that one or both aircraft were actually painted ready for delivery, however, no photographic evidence has ever surfaced to confirm this. This is my take on the scheme which may have been applied. Eleven more to go for a full what if pack.
