Thank You for the Helo's. They are outstanding!!   Can you tell me what key the gunsight is set to, I cannot get my gunsight to drop down. Again Thanks to all involved in bringing these into the game.

S!

On behalf of the RAF662 Combat Flight Sim Group, we send our sincere gratitude for the addition of these Helo mods, as many of our ranks are ex-H Squad members from way back and really enjoy flying the Helos. Keep up the great work. It is MUCH appreciated.

Does anyone know what to do with a large collection of slightly bent helicopters? I seem to be writing them off at an alarming rate... ::)

Seriously, these beasts are proving great fun, though landing them with any precision seems to be beyond my capabilities. The FM revision in the last version seems to have helped a little - what was actually changed?

I'm looking forward to the next chopper release, but meanwhile I'll keep trying to land the Sikorsky more like an eagle alighting on it's nest, and less like a grand piano dropped from a tall building...

well, maybe not in tech help...perhaps we should have a Flight School section, where the best way to fly various AC can be discussed...but, for now, a thread in the lounge would work to help all the struggling helo pilots.....
it puzzles me as to what the guys are doing, though....i've been taking off/landing sweetly with this bird from the very first hop......easy does it, is the key.... ;D 8)

HERE IS A TIP

S!

Nice starting point Flak! Thank you

Bookmarked 8)

Not until I dug into Wikipedia did I realise the controls are similar but yet have different names. I think it (my control issue) is my joystick, but I am certain there must be more optimal configurations then what I have. I've got a Thrustmaster dumbstick with a heavy centering spring I think may be more advantageous then my Saitek FFB Evo I currently use. Mods feel free to move this post to any flightschool thread as deemed appropriate.

Thanks

Triad

[EDIT]Could not prop pitch be put into the 'Collective' function? Seems natural enough, tho I am uncertain how it translates. [/EDIT]

The latest SAS Buttons works fine on my system, however, when I add the lines to my air.ini, and add both helicopter files into my mods folder I get a crash to desktop.

I'm using 4.1 HSFX, is this a standard problem for such?

Just got around to installing this little gem, planning some Suez type operations where the Royal Navy used the Whirlwind to land assault troops for the first time.

Coming unstuck trying to create a static model for it, anybody got a good idiots guide on how to do that.

I have done it for other aircraft but I'm getting something wrong here and it keeps crashing.  Something to do with plane.class files I'm told but I have no idea what they are talking about.

Anyway, brilliant bit of work, it will be even better when the AI learns how to drive it.

Hello All
Have to said,I like the new Helo to the game....My question is..How do you use the collective (up & down) :-[...or is it thru the power of the Engine?

Also I noticed that I can't trim it out for forward flight...Must keep hands pushing forward on stick to fgo forward

thx 68Gulf

Yes, whatever control you normally use for throttle becomes the collective in this helicopter, though it isn't entirely accurate in the way it works - it doesn't seem to have any effect during autorotation for example. I expect this is due to limitations in the flight modelling. Considering IL-2 didn't support helicopters at all before this, I'd say it does a darned good job.

And you do need to apply forward stick to keep the speed up - I don't think helicopters of that time had trim (actually, I'm not sure they do even now). If I was going to fly choppers a lot in IL-2, I might look at modifying a joystick to reduce the centring force, which would probably make it more comfortable.
