Mission Bug

Thanks mate followed your advice and got 'raised seat' and open door working. It would appear like you said that you have to be in the Right Hand seat, then 'open canopy' and finally 'raise seat' to lean out. like f22 Raptor mentioned once operated the open canopy i think is disabled for a while.

cheers all

regards

 :D

Back on the topic of learning how to control the beast, formation flying seems good practice:

Behind, to the right, in 'head out' view seems easiest:

It mostly comes down to smooth flying, and very small movements of the collective/throttle.

Though multi-chopper AI flights seem to end up in disaster, a single AI chopper going about 100 Km/h seems stable enough - set one up in the FMB to overfly your chopper, allowing a few minutes to get airborne - then see how close you can formate...

Nice one Flatkin .

Really quiet good to fly but wow she sure likes to shake if you give her to much throttle .I have  tried to land on a hanger or some thing with a flat roof around any aerodrome.I always end up in a pile of rubble.Any of you helo experts know how to do this?I also want to try formating on another fling wing but not sure how to set it up in QMB.Any way thanks very much for making this helicopter

cheers

You can't land on any il2 "objects" if you touch something, it'll explode unfortunately.

no troops, 50 fuel, 47% power will hover. So just drop the helicopter till it gets relatively close to the ground. Then powerup until it is nearly not going down anymore and wack it back down to 50% power which will slow down your decent a very small tad. Adjust between 45 and 50 to get it down. With paratroops and 50 fuel it's around 70-75% power.

If you are really struggling with landing, you could always try flying it like an RC chopper, in external view. Cheating of course, but it may help you get a feel for it to start with. It is usually easier to land with a little forward motion too.

Don't rely on the VSI to measure descent speed - it has too much lag in its response...

SKS and AK fire would cut thru those birds like a knife thru warm butter.

Seconded. Helicopters are hideously vulnerable to ground fire, as the U.S. learned to its chagrin in Vietnam and the Soviets re-learned to their chagrin in Afghanistan. Even armored helicopters like the Mil-24 can be (relatively) easily brought down by ground fire from heavy machine guns. The early helicopters didn't have that much of a payload, so the amount of armor they could carry was minimal.
