XC-47C Float Transport

XC-47C Float Project

this is yet another long-time coming project.  many folks at SAS forum had asked for it, and i had actually started early work on it, then Ranwers posted a screenshot of one and asked for someone to do the class, and since i had actually already started a class, i said sure, i'll do it.

only thing is, a class was not all that is needed to make 'this' plane float, takeoff and land on water.  right off the bat i ran into trouble getting this plane to function properly...it 'just' wouldn't work correctly, especially with the AI.  then when i had got kind of close to getting it---whamo!   lightning strike which blew up my computer and erased ALL of that hard work!

after i managed to get 'back' to work, i had to redo everything i had done previously and yet 'still' could not get this plane to work right.  i've got to say, this plane fought me harder than any other seaplane and has taken the longest.  many times i would get so frustrated with it that i would put it down for awhile...then try it...put it down...try it, etc.

finally, just over the last few days, i got it working well, with both human and AI pilots.  but it took a complete reconstruct of the hier.him, the class file, and the FM file...to do it.  for some reason, the way IL2 uses this plane in the game...every single part of it MUST BE exactly right.  wow!  what a job!  but hey, it's finally done.

this plane really existed, btw...  named the XC-47C, it was fitted with floats and performed well in trials but then the military (by that time) was winning the war and had plenty of good bases all over so figured they didn't need it anymore.

Credits:

Ranwers 'original' early hier.him work, also he may have been the one that put the 'somewhat' different pilots in it (that i left in.)  if that's not correct on the pilots, let me know and i'll give full credit for them.  the cockpit is his mod too, i believe.

Wolfighter put out the 'round' engine mod...very nice.

Unknown skin maker...  i do 'not' unfortunately know who made this nice skin.  it came with the original hier.him that Ranwers sent me.  if anyone knows whose it is, please let me know and i'll give full credit for it.

Beowolff (myself) complete hier.him rework, new class file/slot, new sea worthy FM, mesh work to repair damaged LOD's, some 3D work in GMAX to move the ladder a bit further down so it was closer to the side door, juggling it all together and many etc's.

sorry if i left anybody out...but if i did, many thanks.

tested in UP2.01 and SAS mod-act.

NOTE:  if you don't already have it, you NEED the diff_FM mod or it will not work!

Filefront Download Link:

unzip, drop the plane folder into your MODS folder, put the below into your STD/air.ini file:

XC-47C            air.XC_47C 1                                  usa01 DESERT

that's it, go in game, select it and fly.

PS...if you change the skin, you might want to change the float skins to match the plane...  easy, go into the plane's 3Do folder, to the actual plane folder, then into both the multi1 and USA folders...  find the skin50.tga and open it...  repaint the sections in there (that i have painted BROWN) to the color you prefer.  save and exit, that's it.

PSPS at present time both USA and the Multi version share the same paint skin.  if one of you gifted skinners would fix it so the multi has no insignia, i would appreciate it.

magnificient skin pack NOW available from SAS Highlander!  you won't believe how good they really are!

I saw one of these as a child at a Wiscasset (KIWI) Airport Fly-In. It was a sight to behold, and would you believe it got of the ground with only 3000 ft. of runway!!! As when those old radials started, there was a minor fire, I guess they leak a lot of oil when sitting still, good stuff!!!

Nice one Beowolff, lovely job you've done with this. Thank you very much.  And master Ranwers of course, mustn't forget who originally set this one going.

opens up all kinds of possibility's for mission builders, now we just need more seaplane bases adding to the maps.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. 8)

it really sounds like you had a hard time getting this fine lady in the air, and all I can say is thanks you for keeping working on it. I just took her for a spin and she flies like a dream. Very good work sir!
