How to add maps??
« on: September 06, 2009, 08:09:08 AM »

Hi there everyone,my first post

I would just like to ask please, how I would go about installing an add-on map to my SAS Activated install.

So far I have installed the QMB Mod and a few planes with NP,just want to start adding some maps now and although I have looked and read I havn't come across a thread on how to install maps.

Thank you for any info
Cheers:

We have not written one specifically for here, so Fly_zo' s guide is still the one. I quote the relevant past here:

Quote
1 put map folder ( example : mrz_Malta) into

IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\MODS\MAPMODS\maps\

example: IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\MODS\MAPMODS\maps\mrz_Malta

(create your own "mapmods" folders if you dont have one already)

2 put all.ini (or update if already there) in to

IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\MODS\MAPMODS\maps\

example: IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\MODS\MAPMODS\maps\all.ini

and add lines provided by mod readme

----------------------------------------

IF MOD CONTAINS ANY CUSTOM OBJECTS :

- clear instructions how to update your static.ini file are present in mod's readme file

proper procedure :

1 locate your static.ini file

location:

\MODS\STD\com\maddox\il2\objects\static.ini

2 open it with notepad and edit it as instructed in readme file

* if you don't have such file download it from here :

http://allaircraftarcade.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5444

MAKE SURE YOU DON'T HAVE static.ini FILE PRESENT IN ANY OTHER MOD FOLDER !!!

Hello all,

I am running UP2.0 and have been adding various mods, yesterday i tried to add some map mods, i added the following succesfully,

Palembang
Sakashima
but with the following three
B29 Alley
Archangelsk
mixx_zapolar

I can load the maps in full mission builder but cannot save any missions, i have followed the advice given by Fly_zo, and the advice in the mixx_zapolar readme about adding the 3do file contained in the download (tried with and without with the same result).
I was wondering if anyone else has had success loading these maps with UP2.0 and if so did they have to find a work around.

any help greatly appreciated

regards

slipper

edit:- i think it maybe something to do with fabianfreds altered files for UP2.0 will chek and report back

Thanks to your instructions I was able to add several new maps. But I have a question about a problem(?)
Some include a "_tex" folder. When I try to add it,it asks me if I want to overwrite the existing folder.I don't want to break anything so what should I do?

tater, the folders/files inside tex are all texture files that the maps use. It is generally ok to overwrite those with the same name, BUT.....if you are in the least bit unsure, make a backup before overwriting anything!!!  ;)

Perhaps this is in the wrong place, but I thought it is a good extension of the original question:

I want to use Redko's repainted map as 'standard' Iwo Jima map but his expanation and my understanding of
the English language don't line up.

Ok, I have in my folder Mapmods the map iwo, in it are three files: Load.ini. Online_load.ini and map_T.tga
In the all.ini file are the lines: Iwo Iwo/load.ini and IwoOnine Iwo/Online_load.ini

First Redko says put this line 'Iwo_redko Iwo_redko\load.ini' into the all.ini and than;

'If you want to install this map in place of the stock one, don't put nothing on all.ini file, but just rename
the load.ini file redko_load.ini into load.ini, and redko_Online_load.ini into Online_load.ini'.

But in the map Iwo_redko are only files with the name load.ini and Online_load.ini.

Now my question is wich line do I have to alter in order to get Redko's repaint as my default Iwo map??

I've used Redko's map as an example, the question is only intended to get sorted out how to do this.

I don't have an all.ini file in my Mapmods folder ???  does anyone know what may have happened to it if indeed it was ever there to have anything happen to it?

Without it I cannot spawn the default maps but can only add a mod map as per instructions of the modder to include the lines for the mod map in an all.ini file I have to create. So its mod maps or nothing else or default maps and nothing else.

Can I make up an all.ini to include the lines necessary to spawn all the default maps?

Thanks in anticipation

best to search your entire Il2 folder for any all.ini files. depending on which version you use, you might have one in Mods/Mapmods/maps, or Files/maps...
if its in Files and you have none in Mods, then just copy the one from files into mapmods, then you can add extra maps to it from there...

Superflyer, i'd advise you to read through all the tutorials and info on adding new maps first. you are obviously confused somewhere, because maps do not use the air.ini at all.
besides the map folder, and texture folders, the only other entry for a map goes in the all.ini file. look for this file first, depending on your install version, it will either be in Files/maps/... or in Mods/Mapmods/maps/.....
the air.ini has nothing to do with maps, only aircraft.  :)

Hello Guys!

I fight with the maps but the result: a couple of times I reinstalled my Il-2 because something is broken : (
As for now, enjoy the only new textures from Redko - the Desert Online and Sands of Time - that's the maps which are already in Il-2 (before retexture obviously)...

Playing with IL-2, discovered how to add some maps to the QMB.
1. Have UP2.01
2. We go to the location where you installed IL-2
(mine is C: \ Program Files \ Ubisoft \ IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 \)
3.Open the folder Quicks
4.Open QMBMaps
5. How do I add maps? delete / / before the name ;)

But it does not work with everyone - some maps do not show at all, eg Aleutians, Benghalli, Cartagena, fly_Z_Britain_Autumn, Hokkaido_S, Kyushu (retextured by Redko), Okinawa (retextured by Redko) ... -in  the FMB these maps are but QMB only appear in the list but does not load: (

1. You know what to do to add new maps so that they display in the QMB?
2. I tried also to replace existing Ddefault maps in QMB such as Okinawa (orginal is ugly - this green colours!) to Okinawa by Redko whether Kyushu on Kyushu by Redko but do not know how? : (

Gerax: "Thats it. Now you should get, when you load a mission written for the Iwo map, the wonderful new Redkos repainted Iwo" ... read that - but not works for me -hmm... :(

3. Generally, adding maps don't work for me fine - a few times I tried to install maps for eg Whitecat: Singapore repainted v.2.0, Kyushu repainted v.3.0, Palau repainted v.1.0, Okinawa retextured v.1.0, New Guinea repainted v.3.0 - but none of them works (and screwed up my entire IL-2 instalation)  :(

The problem for me is also to add new lines in the ini files - I have them in 3 places -

1. directory: IL-2 Sturmovik 1946/MODS/Mapmods/Maps/all.ini (as I understand the most important)

2. directory: IL-2 Sturmovik 1946/Missions/Quick/QMBMaps.ini (QMBPro V4.09m by PAL (benitomuso)

3. directory: IL-2 Sturmovik 1946/Quick/QMBMaps.ini (QMBPro V4.09m by PAL (benitomuso)

As searching in those files, trying different options by adding new maps (eg to Whitecat) I screwed up Il-2
What to do to fix that? I have to uninstall QMBPro V4.09m?? - It would be a pity...  :(

Grateful for the advice how to add properly new maps ;)
