I get that too high and fast is bad, but I have trouble believeing that there is such a thing as too low or too slow, at least for all torpedoes. 

I've seen arguements about correct entry angle, but I don't find them convincing, at least for all models.
After all, didn't some PT boats use aerial torpedos?

So far I have had success with the earlier Mk 13 flying Beaufighter X at 220 km/h, 20-40m alt, flaps at combat.  Also had success with the Swordfish at similar alt.  Speed is not an issue with the Swordfish ;-)

also, i find that you can cause much more damage, with a much better chance of a one-hit sink, if you can torpedo the ship from the front, so the torp hits it in the bow.
only real difficulty is your target is much smaller, so you have to aim properly, and there is a big advantage in not being exposed to the broadside fire from the ship. ;)
