Generic skin for Japancat's A6M5b
« on: April 25, 2015, 03:45:40 AM »

Hi all!

I was unable to find a blank/unmarked on the Internet, so I thought to make my own (thanks to Emel's template)! :D

it is intended to couple with A6M5b update (from HSFX7) v1.1, but may work in any environment.

Link for download

Enjoy!

The merit is all of Emel, who did a great job putting together the template. I've spent there only half an hour to choose the set suitable to my needs (and to my ability: actually the template allows you to do more).

It would be perfect if it had the rivets also on right side of the fuselage, but for some reason - that is unknown to me - they are missing, and I'm not able to add them. :-[

Thanks for your kind appreciation. :)

Are you by any chance using Gimp? I believe this is because the templates were made using Photoshop and there are some incompatibility issues between Gimp and Photoshop...

This causes some layers that are grouped together to replace each other in Gimp. Also, not all of the metal effects (such as metal stress) that Emel included in his templates show up correctly in Gimp.

Luckily there is a solution for Gimp users...  :)

Below are step-by-step instructions (by Bob the Terrible) on  how to make the layers show up correctly in Gimp:

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,44723.0.html

I've noticed that sometimes .psd templates don't work correctly in Gimp. For example, the lighting layers in eMeL's templates tend to replace each other rather than lay over each other. That is certainly the case in the ki-45 template.

There is a solution, but it is a bit laborious.

1) Expand each layer in the affected group to image size (right-click, "layer to image size").

2) Make a new layer group above or below the affected group and name it "[affected group name]-corrected" or something similar.

3) For each layer in turn, Copy (Edit>Copy) the layer and paste (Edit>Paste as>New Layer) it into the new layer group ("Duplicate" layer and then moving the duplicated layer into the new group doesn't work - it must be Copy-and-Paste), rename the layer from "Clipboard" to whatever and adjust the transparency to equal that of the copied layer. You may wish to Autocrop each layer afterwards.

4) Switch off the original layer group.

This does work for me, but if it doesn't work for you, then I'd like to hear about it.

Also, there may be an easier way of doing this, I don't know.

Yes, I am. And shall try your hint.

Thank you!

Done!

Rivets are now visible also on right side of fuselage. I got by same process also wheel well doors outline on wing undersides, previously missing. I noticed that, actually, it is not required reworking all layers of the group, but just the conflicting ones.

New skin uploaded at same link of the first post.

Thanks again,

Epic skin!

Certain versions of GIMP work better than others as well. I still use an older edition as it gives better results for me when saving files.

Thanks a lot for your appreciation! :)

I repeat that 95% of the credit goes to Emel's excellent template; it would be 99% if he had done in GIMP! ;) :D

I wanted to be able also to give some relevance to fabric coating of control surfaces, but if I enable that group of layers, only a series of black holes appear, and previous trick doesn't work. :(
