"toggle engine" key not working for some aircraft?~SOLVED
« on: February 07, 2010, 05:34:24 PM »

Did fresh install using SAS Modact and SAS buttons...

Strange issue now that affects only certain aircraft (including all jets) - engines will not start using "toggle engine" key.

Other aircraft, including multi-engine ones still respond correctly as they always have.

Any ideas please?

Sorry, perhaps I was not clear with what the problem is.

The "toggle engine" key will not turn the engines on for certain aircraft. Does not matter where I reassign the key - joystick or keyboard - it will not start the engine, it will ONLY turn engine off.

It works fine for most aircraft, just like it has for me for last 8 years in this sim. Has nothing to do with key assignments or assigning keys for multiple engines.

Well, does this thing happen when you are in the air, with the engine running, then the engine suddenly stops, and you try to re-start it?
If it behaves like this, I do not think there is a problem: the early biplanes (I-15, FIAT CR. 42) could have their engines started only by the ground crew. If the engine stopped in flight, there was nothing that the pilot would be able to do. The only thing the pilot was able to do was stopping the engine (either on the ground or in the air).
About the jets... in my installation of the sim, the early jets behave pretty similar to the early biplanes. I can start the engine on the ground (no problem with that), but in the air (and especially in a dogfight), I cannot reduce the throttle to less than 50%, otherwise my engine would stop with no chance of restarting it (the same ”Engine Off” message appears when I hit the toggle engine key). As far as I know, this is usual for the period s jet engines (they could not be restarted in-air, but only on the ground).

Secondly, have you checked the position of your magnetos on the ground (on the piston-engined planes: they should be on ”M1+M2” for the engine to start)?

i've seen this happen before on certain maps, or airfields - something in the airfield setup sometimes causes certain planes (especially jets) to not be able to start because of where they're positioned. I can't recall now if this was because of something the mapmaker did, or if there was some other reason. You might also want to check which Zuti mods you're using, and try testing by disabling them one by one. Iirc, this might also have been cause by one of the Zuti mods, perhaps the airfield reduced influence mod, or similar.

Malone...you were correct, it was the map! Thanks!

I noticed for some reason the "Slovakia" map actually points to and loads "Slovakia Summer Light" in QMB? They are switched somehow...if I load "Slovakia Summer Light" I then get normal Slovakia map in FMB. I guess that's the problem.

now to get that figured out...

Anyway, thanks for the help!!!!
