I just read these things in flypast, There was an issue with stability in dive and other problems, surely as refered above, making the navy try to abort further production and continue use SBD 5, the fact that production of sbd`s was stopped and progress of war "saved" the sb2c.
This is what i got out of my reading in that issue of flypast.
My opinion is that the bird is a beauty, and would be my favorite if someone made it for il2. And thank you for the extra information of the plane from a 1st hand "user" . I belive in your  version before flypast.
