Always loved the look of that bird, but as I understand it, they were not initially liked by crews who claimed that the "SB2C" classification was short for Son of a Bitch 2nd Class.

Nice looking model, first class work.

That's definitely not the old Monogram SB2C Helldiver kit that I put together in the early 1980's.  Nice job, VT-51_Hatter!

Thanks guys. It's the ProModeler version.

The decals were very old and fell apart so they're 50/50 decal/paint.

Thanks again!

The pilots who flew this plane thougt the letters  stand for son of a bitch 2.nd class . They really did not like it.
But never the less i really would like to have it in the game

There is a former SB2C gunner on another forum that I frequent who said that phrase did not start in WW II.  He said that the SB2C was actually a good aircraft, but it was very complicated and that made maintenance problematic.  So many of its systems were hydraulically controlled whereas older designs used more cables and linkages which, of course, did not leak hydraulic fluid.  He thinks the Son of a Bitch 2nd Class moniker may have come much later, possibly from people writing stories and histories of WW II.  History has shown that the SB2C had many problems in the development phase, but so do most new designs, but was very successful in combat.

My Grandfather flew one from a air wing on CV-13, Big ben (if I remember right). He said the main problem was bailing out. The tail was so tall the only safe way to do it was to invert and fall out! He did refer to it as the sob 2nd class but never said if they called it that during the war.
Awesome looking plane Hatter, thanks for posting pics. I cant wait to see this in game.

S!

Great model! Also heard some called it The Beast due it's handling in the beginning. Nevertheless would be a nice addition to IL-2 :)

Did you know that Wurlitzer (Jukeboxes) built the wing center sections during the war? So I heard......
