I took screenshots, but how do I post them. Copy and paste doesn't work.
Photobucket it's free  copy photos there and then use that site to host your pictures...

Put the vanilla #DBW folder back in game, use jsgme to remove all but the TFM, the put the dash in front of the DBW folder -#DBW, put the vanilla one in and run it again, you may have a glitch with your TFM, this will tell you if it's TFM or your graphics card/puter.  If so you will have to go the route I did and build your own version.  Mines "Totally Freakin Mikey's mod pack.

Did you read the tweak guides I included in the previous post?...........

Good Luck

Okay, all I did was disable gunner FX and that seemed to solve it!
Thanks, and yes I did read the tweak guides you sent me.

Drewm, it's hard to tell from the conf you posted, it looks as if it's incomplete, but i noticed you have Effects=2 as a setting under your [Render OpenGL] section.
this should be set to Effects=1.
Not sure if you're using the DirectX or OpenGL section, though... OpenGL is preferable.
most of the newer fx packages have this requirement.
if you already have it set to 1, then ignore this and carry on :D

@ Drewm: If you have pinpointed Gurners FX as the problem, it's worth noting that the distance mod for smoke was the biggest hit on my system. Might be worth removing this part or changing the max distance if you have installed it. Also others have had better poerformance with earlier versions of the mod e.g. 4.1. It's all in the gurner fx thread

And Malone is right about Effects=2, this looks good on my rig but really slows it down. Water=4 gives an unacceptable performance for me too. I run water=2 but I'm on Nvidia

I notice you are on W8 64, worth reading this too:

First off I'd like to thank everyone for the unbelievable input and support. It is much appreciated. Also, I have effects=2 and water=2 running with DBW and TFM and I downloaded that 64-bit patch. Ever since I disabled gunner fx and tweaked my CPU I am getting unbelievable visuals and performance. I am new to il-2, but not to WW2 flight sims. I remember playing mcfs 1 and 2 as a little boy with my granddad years ago. But, this game is unbelievable. I feel as if I'm there. All the other flight sims I've played have had horrendous visuals or arcade gameplay. I am flying on medium difficulty with most difficulty settings checked except for markers and the never end mission one. I must say that the planes are very fly able and realistic, because for once the bullets didn't always shoot based on the sight in my p-40. The Pearl Harbor map looks unbelievable. I can't believe this game is from 2001! Anyways thanks a bunch an I'm going to post some screenshots in the DBW forum soon.
Thanks for the help!

Although my performance is much better I will look into further tweaks. For example I would like to know if I installed Monty correctly. I downloaded DBW and then activated the packs in chronological order. I didn't make a new DBW folder, but I hadn't added to the default one. Also marcost what is the distance mod for smoke and how would I change that setting just in case?
Thanks!

Full monty replaces the Zero+Corsair startup screen. and the entire Interface is different, its marked DBW so big you can not miss it.

follow the instructions... all the downloads in one folder, and then run the EXE, the blue one with the red star.

feel the same.
Have some wishes like selfreflections and bumpmapping on skins... but... DBW has become what I need for my proper WWII warplane setup.
and with the Upped Typhoons... this one is a keeper.
