System lag with powerful computer on Il-2?
« on: January 27, 2013, 10:39:07 AM »

Hello, i got this problem. Im experiencing very annoying lag ingame even my computer is pretty good even in today standards. Regardless of do i use stock version or hsfx 6.0, or do i use directX or openGL. Ive got proper driver for my graphic card and latest directX and i still lag especially when flying over cities/moving my head around cities. At this point i think power cannot be the problem, because my computer has following items:

Graphic card: AMD Radeon HD 7950 3GB
Ram: 16gb
Processor ATI FX(fm)-4170 quad-core 4.2ghz

im using Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

I also have very weird graphic behaviour regardless of which one i use, directX or OpenGL. With directX enemy planes and their nameplates keep constantly and randomly dissappearing, and with openGL nameplates do so, and backround textures are randomly flashing.

What can i do?  :-[

I think you problem is caused by less memory space used by IL-2 1946.

Even though your PC has 8GB~16GB memories , Stock or HSFX6 IL-2 1946 uses only 128MB (in my memory).
128MB ... Oh , it's too small.

So, installing "SAS IL2 Selector" from here.
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,16403.0.html
Then you can select memory size upto 1024MB in its setup menu.

When you stated "At this point i think power cannot be the problem", that may not be true.

Your computer specs are the bomb diggity, however you did not list your P/S, that is a power supply.

Referencing your card on newegg it says that it requires at least a 500 watt unit.

Without the proper 4, 6, or 8 pin connectors, (which most upgrade P/S have) it won't work correctly.

If that is not the case, there are other considerations, such as you've stated, updating drivers, and :

IL-2 has been endlessly debated, and most agree, it should be run in OPEN GL, and also,

Nvidia holds the ground on which cards runs IL-2 the best, as per probably the above statement...

Beyond that, there are endless tweaks and configurations which can be done to both game & system

You could look into Game Booster or other freeware that ends unneeded processes while gaming and..

Remember, IL-2 at it's core is over 10 years old at this point, it can only do so much, and at the end of many hours of tinkering, and adjusting everything under the sun, it can still disappoint a little here and there.

So, check that you have at the very least a sturdy 500 watt minimum P/S with more being better and that the secondary power cable(s) are connected to that super cool 3gb AMD card and good hunting.

I am also experiencing horrendous system lag and visuals that do not correspond to screenshots I've seen. While my computer is nowhere near yours in specs, it should be well-capable of running Il-2 1946, DBW, and TFM. I am running Opengl and the game files are in C:/games, not program files. I don't know if it's just my system, drivers(which are up to date), or my config file, but the game is running horrendously. I have been able to run Wings of Prey and War Thunder on max settings and ACIII on high settings with playable frame rates. However, Il-2 hasn't even been playable and the installed mods do not look as they should.

Here are my system specs:
Brand New HP Pavilion G7 laptop
-A8-4500m processor
-7640g discrete-class graphics running Catalyst 13.1
-8 gb ddr3 ram
-Windows 8 64-bit

Here is my config file(I'm running opengl):

can you post a screenshot? a fullsize one?

Well I'm more concerned about the performance, not the quality. But, the water in the "special edition Four Days in June campaign" was awful. The frames are so slow I can't even stay airborne. Do I have everything set the way it should be? I can post a screen shot if you'd like too.

do so, do so.
perfect water can be a resource hog... as can anti-alias and antisotropic filtering for sharp textures, [or whatever its called... never remember that scifi lingo]

This is from our groups computer guru, his advice has helped a lot of guys in the squad with graphics problems running ATI cards

Code: [Select]
ATI cards Only!!!! average

5700-5800 series cards: Keep in mind this best possible fps with some eye candy.

10.7 driver

ATI CCC settings are: 4x AA (Box), Aniso is set to App pref (Use in game aniscop), Cat AI OFF, MipMap high quality, Vsynch always ON, AA mode is Super Sampling, NO Triple Buffer.

You can experiment with water, trees, visibility distance etc... but you should always run the game in OpenGL.  Do you have Java runtime environment installed on your computer? or at least the latest version?..... it's very important it's not messed up, or you will have issues.

Go here and read this guide to tweaking ATI cards... http://www.tweakguides.com/ATICAT_1.html

And this one too.............. http://www.tweakguides.com/Graphics_1.html
