"C" wing mod for Spit?
fritzofpeace:
Was wondering if there is a mod which makes the "C" or "universal" wing available on various Spit marks?
I've read that it was available by 42, and those four 20 mm's really change how one can use the plane. My searches have come up empty on this.
HundertzehnGustav:
so you want different gun loadouts?
4x20,
2x20+.303
2x20+.50
fritzofpeace:
Yes, 110G, that's one way of putting it, although the four hispano rig is my main focus. I've got the MkIII mod, which gives an "early look" four cannon plane, and I see that it pops up on some MkIXe models too.
But, when it comes to the MkV or VIII, the only thing I find is the Vctrop in my game, which by the way is not DBW, just the SASModact 3.0 version 4.101.
What brought this to mind was AMT's recent post about the Apache they're working on. I've found that a nimble aircraft with four cannons is often more than a match for opponents, even if they're faster. ;D
HundertzehnGustav:
its not such a bad idea...
how the theory compares to reality however, that i do not know. a IXc with four cannons... ever used in the field? how exactly were the "universal wings" able to be configured? at that time the Hispano cannon model was changed too, IIRC from Drum to belt-fed type.
Also, was it not "either inside OR outside" slot could be used with the new hispano?
However ..."easy"... or "simple" the idea seems to be, for the mod to be properly historical and correct, a bit of reading has to be done.
I have forgotten the few things i once knew about the Spit wings. I only remember it was as messy as 109 engine differences.

;D
And THAT'S a bucket of worms!
Who knows, maybe someone can do a switcheroo of game's MkVc four cannon wing three dimensional so that it's somehow transferable.
And what you mention about "reality in the field" is very valid question. Just because I've read that it (the "C" wing with 4 cannon layout) was available from early 42 on, doesn't mean it was actually employed or common in the least.
Beo's kittybomber is a good example of what four twenties do for an acrobatic, mid-speed aircraft.
