DBW 1.0 to 1.71 SuperPack One-Stop Download & Install

After several very frustrating weeks wihtout Il-2 as I had a new hard disk fitted I decided to go for it and install DBW with the superpack as suggested here:

The first surrpise was that when I installed 1946 straight from the disc it installed as 4.10.01 rather than 4.07 as I's expected, and trying to install the SuperPack failed to introduce me to the expected wonders of DBW (although files had appeared in my IL-2 folder).

After some random blundering around deleting various files and trying to make some sense of it all I did manage to get v 4.07 fresh from the disk. Aha I thought, DBW here we come.

Instead all I got was an upgrade to 4.10.1.

As you can tell I'm not too technically literate. I'm obviusly missing something somewhere. Any help gratefully received.

look in your game folder for a "selector.exe"
switch that to DBW(only that... for the moment), and try again :)

Now here is what I did, for all you guys and gals that are still having problems installing this...

Make sure to make a de-fragmentation of your harddrive disc FIRST to write all
the stuff neatly into your pc! - THIS IS A MUST DO !
So, go do it! I don´t care if you did it last week, do another!

next... start out with a CLEAN version install.

1- Install game from DVD...or whatever you got it from.

Then add-Install ALL patches as follows...

2 - 4.08m - can be found on the CD, install from there

3 - 4.09m - download from here and install - http://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads&file=details&id=3764

4 - 4.10m - download from here and install - http://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads&file=details&id=3993

5 - 4.10.1m - http://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads&file=details&id=4044

DO NOT ADD ANY MORE PATCHES. Stop here with the patching part

FLY THE GAME and see if it works. Check out the old game and remember it well, because what is coming
up next will blow your mind! You are in for a real treat!  8)

Make any changes to your game settings now and change whatever you want on the "conf.ini  game" settings
to your liking  (if you know how)... if you do not know how.... DON´T TOUCH IT!

Re-start your computer machine - It is a must - DO THIS NOW !

Next download Ultrapack 3... via Torrent if possible

3 - Download and install into #UP# folder a Diff-Fm for UP 3.0 RC4.

This will allow you to later install new mod-airplanes into the Ultrapack 3 version

FLY THE GAME and see if it works. Make a 15 minute test.

Re-start your machine - Yes, it is a must

When you open the game using the Exe icon, you can choose which game you want to play.
Choose
Normal version - IL-2-1946
SAS version Modact
Ultrapack3
Darkblueworld
DBW-1916

Choose the ram settings (I like 512, its good enough)
and then I click start the game.

Remember that you will also have an extra icon on your main-screen with a big letter G.
Open it up. You will see many effects and mods on your left side of screen, choose which
you want to use in teh game and move them over to your right side.
When you don´t need yjem, move them back to the left side, and click~OK.
BTW - To play in Ultrapack - move the Ultrapack package to the right side. When you don´t
use it put it back on the left side.

This is all very easy to do and remember.

1. Install fresh, doesn't matter if it is 4.07 or 4.101, just as long as it is under 4.11.
2. Next download and install the superpack.
3. Start IL-2 Selector, NOT il2fb.exe.
4. Go to "change settings" and select Dark Blue World from the drop-down next to "game type."
5. Go back and click "start IL-2 now!"
6. Have fun exploring your new modded game :)

I did just that, but nothing would start, no splach screen...just nothing.  I found JSGME, activated DBW, double checked the launcher, clicked start....Nothing.

Then, just for fun, I tried IL2FB.exe...again, nothing.  I'm going to rip it all out and try again, but is there some common error I've committed?
