Firstly I have spent hours and hours trying to solve this and read all the following links over several times.

I have also searched the SAS forums but am still mighty confused.

Here's what I have working so far
IL-2 Stock 4.10.1m
UP3RC4
DBW bld 1.71

I can run all 3 versions of the game using the IL-2 Selector 2.2.2 by SAS. I have no problems at all up to here. I have no other mods installed and this is all working at this point from a clean install.

I am trying to add the F-4E Phantom by [name banned] and understand it will work with DBW bld 1.71

The steps I follow are from the information in the posts above but I'm doing something wrong as DBW will CTD at 20%. Here is what I do in correct order.

1. Download the file, https://hotfile.com/dl/149617032/2c11e26/_00_F-4_Phantom_II_v1.21_(14-03-12).rar.html

2. Unzip and copy the folder to location    E:/IL-2 Sturmovik 1946/#DBW

3. Add the lines into my air.ini file located in E:/IL-2 Sturmovik 1946/#DBW/STD/com/maddox/il2/objects   

F-4B air.F_4B 2 NOINFO usa01 SUMMER
F-4D air.F_4D 2 NOINFO usa01 SUMMER
F-4E air.F_4E 2 NOINFO usa01 SUMMER
F-4J air.F_4J 2 NOINFO usa01 SUMMER

Save the air.ini file

4. Add the lines into my plane_ru.properties file located in E:/IL-2 Sturmovik 1946/#DBW/STD/il8n

F-4B F-4B Phantom II, 1960
F-4D F-4D Phantom II, 1966
F-4E F-4E Phantom II, 1967
F-4J F-4J Phantom II, 1967

Save the plane_ru.properties file

5. Download the latest buttons file from http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,97.0.html

6. copy the buttons file to location E:\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\#DBW\STD\gui\game\Buttons

From here I run DBW from the IL-2 selector and get a CTD at 20%

have you put in the no open canopy Ai mod?

Check if you got a '_00_F-4 Phantom II' folder inside #DBW because you got a rar file inside another.
Plus I'd also try without replacing the buttons file and I think you forgot the Stationary.ini and technics.ini entries too.

20% crash usually you're missing something. From my point of view, did you copy the 00000_000_NoOpenCanopyAI folder to your #DBW also? Can you send me the log file?

Problem solved. Thanks to all who replied, I was extracting files at the wrong level and did not include the no open canopy ai mod! It's working great now.

Its included in the _00_F-4 Phantom II v1.21 (14-03-12).rar.
