One thing not to forget : you must "attach" your plane to the carrier for both TakeOff and Landing waypoints. If not, it will explode..

Could you elaborate on this... "attach".  I have the carrier defined and moving.  I have placed the F-4 on the flight deck, toward the stern of the carrier.  I set the initial waypoint as  "takeoff" and I set about 4 other waypoints on the map just as a test.  I lauch the FMB, the game winds up5%, 20%, 60%, 70%,...... Kaboom!  Nice fireball!

Once I get this problem taken care of, I will have to deal with catapults.   :P

On the drop down window that shows your planes, click "waypoint" then click take off, then at the bottom left you will see "set target", left click it and move your mouse away from the drop down window toward the carrier, you should see a green line following your mouse, move it over the carrier untill the carrier is "highlighted" and left click the mouse. The green line should stay pointing to the carrier.

Thanks Bombsaway, Gaston.  That worked well.  Now I know I've read that, but I'll be damned if I could find it yesterday.  Maybe it was in the FMB tutorials?

Now, on to the catapult mods.

Excellent news RedSpade, another problem solved, back on thread, how do we get the aircraft to take off without crashing into the sea.

What is the trick, what setup works, what do we have to do to our Mods folders, our config ini, please help chaps, some of us really do want to join in the jet age mayhem ... what we have at present is a jet capable Colossus class Carrier and nothing else !!

If it works for The Colossus class why wont it work for the Essex and Clemenceau class, it can't be that difficult to fix and clearly there are a few of us who would like to join in, but cant.

Excellent Question Eddie!  Since my last post I've been trying different things and failing miserably.  I set it aside because I got frustrated.  I taxi over near the catapult, set my chocks, flaps, time is set to 1960, power up to 100% throttle, release chocks, roll out (seems to slow), off ithe deck into the drink, only to be churned to bits by the massive carrier screws.  I tried the Clemenceau, the Essex, and the Colossus, all with the same results.  Sounded like you had success with the Colossus?  Anything wrong with my procedure?

Yes, very frustrated.  This whole modding process is rife with frustration.  But then after  some reading, some thinking, some tinkering, you finally get it, and WOW.  Big rewards!

western0221,

I am using DBW 1.7.1, which I understand includes Jetwar 1.2. I tried your suggestion. I put _00000_SAS_AI_Engine_HotKeys_Carriers at the top of my \#DBW directory. Then, I deactivated CarrierMod and CarrierTakeOff 5.7.2.1.

Sorry to say that your suggestion does not work. I call up IL-2 Selector 2.2.2 and hit "Start IL-2 now!". The selector disappears from the screen and a few seconds, the selector returns to the screen. The game never comes up.

If you or anyone else has another suggestion I can try, let me know.

Cheers,

Riptide

Riptide

That is exactly the same problem I have, and my setup is much the same as yours by the sound of it. Can't get the game to run with that Mod installed. I have cleared all the carrier type mods out of my instal for now, until we can figure this out.

I have only ever tried to get an F4 off the deck in AI mode and the jet clearly jumps to the cat before it trundles off into the sea, so something is working without any carrier mods installed, something in DBW is doing that bit correctly, but it all goes to ratsh*t after that.

I have tried ALL the carrier type mods, every version, the Variable Temp Mods, confid ini changes, tried everything at least three times, at a complete loss as to how some can get it to work and others can't.

crazyeddie,

It sounds like we are on the same page. It seems we will have to wait until the angle-deck carrier issues are worked out. In "Re:USS Essex SCB-125 angle deck High Reso branch" thread, post #123, western0221 said that Anto's Carrier Mod "fix" would be incorporated in DBW when Version 1.7.2 is released. However, I've not found any mention of a future DBW 1.7.2 release in any of the DBW threads. So, its wait and see.

I still think the wide scope of aircraft and locations provided in DBW makes IL-2 great. If you can't do one thing, there's always a lot of other things you can do in DBW. So while I wait, I can for example, get familar with the fleet of SCW planes that Dreamk recently released :).

Cheers,

Riptide

works as the DBW catapult patch, I told so in my Essex topic.
