Tips & Examples for QMB Mission Builders
« on: December 01, 2009, 05:54:43 PM »

This thread is where we can gather all the good info for guys who want to put together mission packs for the new QMB's.

Tips:

1) You need to include good instructions for how a guy must add the map you are working with to their QMB Pro.
2) Beware of too many ground objects slowing the game down
3) Be doubly aware of static camras. Moslty they are just annoying to scroll through.
4) Watch out for placing spawn points too far apart. No one wants to sit for a minute at 8x speed before the opponent plane comes into view.
5) Know that there is such a thing as TOO MUCH Anti Aircraft Fire. Friendly or enemy.

Examples:

Here are examples of missions. This is an extraction of the QMB missions from Stock 4.09m, including the new "in front of" and "behind" missions. This is a good example of what should be included in a pack of missions.

Finally I believe I sorted out how you can have selectable aircraft from the QMB Pro and other airplanes flying around even if you chose zero planes from the menus: as stated by Gerax, to make you select type and number of kites from the QMBP you need to have them in Squadron 1 only: these airplanes can be activated from the QMBP interface; if you chose no other planes other than yours, just select 0 in the other flights and so no other planes will be present except those you designated in FMB as belonging to other Squadrons than No1! So be aware these planes would be always present, and cannot be configured and as for the above notes, should be chosen very carefully both for type, model and air force!
I hope this may help...

Another side note: when you're planning a mission for the QMBP you can trace a fly path for each flight in Squadron 1 for each side (Red and Blue), and it would be sufficient to add just one aircraft, no matter the type. When you'll load the mission in QMBP you'll chose the type (Normal, Scramble, etc.) and you'll be able to select what aircraft and the number of planes that would be present for each flight!
Remember that any aircraft not belonging to Sqn.1 would be always present!

Over.

One odd thing I discovered: on some maps (I've checked this with the NWEurope, but possibly there are others too) if you assign some other nations other that Russian to the Red flights, the mission wouldn't be recognized, so you'll get a message of missing or corrupt mission in QMBP; when in FMB you should chose the USSR as nation (or directly editing the mis file replacing i.e. usa0100 with r0100 for the [wings] etc.); it would be useful to have a list of the maps and understand why we get this limitation; there is no trouble for vehicles, statics or any other element on the map. Besides, you can always chose the Nation in QMBP.
Hope this help.

OK: here I go again! I really hope someone more expert may write here to confirm or deny my observations; it seems you can create FMB to plan a mission on any map using ONLY German for Blue and Russian for Red aircraft in all the flights for Squadron 1: these can be selected and modified for type/air force from QMBP menu.
Any other Squadron can belong to any Air Force and be composed of any type of aircraft, so you should take care to have them coherent with the period/mission you have in mind, since these other Squadrons will always be present in the mission and cannot be disabled from QMBP menus.
As for vehicles and static aircraft, I noticed with my dismay (it's a bit of a let down!) in many missions included in the QMBP download, they have been assigned to USSR or Germany only: so you take off from Luqa in Malta, and all the planes around are Russian Yaks, Laggs, etc. It would be just a matter to change their properties/types in FMB, and this operation doesn't seem to create any trouble: if anyone has a better understanding about these ideas, I would be grateful to read it here!
Thanks for reading.

Thanks for instructions, I am in the process of making QMB missions for Malta just to learn the trade He He.
We in Norway are bad at reading instructions we build houses without them ,then tear it down again and then read instruction.
In here you have made wonderful instructions for almost everything but i just cant find any for this
Anyway How do you (and this is a topic i have search after and used long time to figure out) put in a map like Malta in QMB beside put  the Malta mapname in quick text.
I really want to know, because I think this might be a way for me to pay back for all them great mods u guys supply :D

Did u guys know what i learned today... Maby old news to u,
KAMIKAZE MISSIONS
Creating kamikaze flights is very simple. Any flight whose last waypoint is a GATTACK will ram
itself into the designated target.
However, if you set up too many waypoints before the GATTACK waypoint, the planes may still
decide to use regular attacks before ramming it. Therefore, it’s recommended that you only
give the kamikaze one waypoint before GATTACK. This will ensure that it attack the target on
the first pass.

Hi LeOne, I have a WIP illustrated tutorial-kind about building missions for this excellent MOD from benitomuso at M4T.
Still I'm far of being an adept: I have trouble with some missions/maps using FMB; sometime I get thye <Data Corrupt or Missing mission> message, and still have to figure out why...

Hi fellow Mates, recently stumbled over Agraciers Maps. Now they are kicking, really good maps. Will try myself to get some minimum scramble missions/none to some of his maps I would like to see in my QMB working. Thank you for posting/sharing your experience, as it helps a lot for a noob like me. I'd like to post here some pictorial online Tutorials I found very easy to understand while it comes to basic mission creation (settings, flypath). They are step-by-step and with all the information required to do so. As I'm a complete noob I need very detailed pictures to each step to understand FMB. Asking all the time cause in wasting times of others. Here they go:
http://www.combatsim.com/memb123/htm/2001/12/il2-miss/
http://www.combatsim.com/memb123/htm/2001/12/il2-miss2/

I'm sure it'll help some of you get familiar with the basics,

Hi Guys,
I've been attempting to create a QMBPro mission for the Gulf of Finland map. I've saved the mission as finsgulfrednone00.mis but when I try to fly it in QMBPro, I get a "data file corrupt"  error. Can someone point out to me what's generating this error?
The mission:

Because of some sort of gameengine shortage you need to put all red ac as russian army none and all blue to german army none in ETO maps,  If you dont you will have data corrupt or similar. You need only to make 1 ac at every flight and useonly 4 squadrons. I belive all thow not tryed it that in passific missions you can use us army none and ija army none atleast you could in unmodded il2.
correct mapname on QMBmap.ini and start on every mission like FinsGulfRedNone00.mis/none10.mis is pos A none20 is pos.D
Look at bold type heads

Best regards

LeOne,
Thanks for the response. I checked the use of "Russian Army None" and "German Army None" for the red and blue aircraft respectively and the mission is correct. However, all 4 flights for both Red and Blue are assigned "Squadron 1". Your reply implies that each flight should be a unique squadron (1 thru 4). Did I understand you correctly?
Thanks,
