ok thank you

so i am going to download/install "Stock 4.07m to DBW 1.71 SuperPack One-Stop Download & Install (the famous SAS F'nBigSuperPack !)" ... as i read on the thread i can install it on a clean 4.10 instead of a 4.07, right ?

one more question: on the other sticky thread "DBW Official Optional Expansions" i see the "Jivers optional complete soundmod v2.0", but i do not understand if it's already included in the above download or not.

Blackshark,

One step at a time, first install the SuperPack and make sure it is up and running. My understanding is that any clean install up to 4.101 will work.
Once up and running make a back up (I always name my backups "Clean XXXX".   After that you can add any other mods that are compatible with DBW.

My DBW keeps crashing at %40 and I cant tell why. I really want to play DBW 1916 but if the standard one keeps crashing 1916 prob won't run. :(

i have a problem with DBW.
i installed DBW 1.71 superpack, on a clean 4.10; i have windows 7 and trackir 5.

the first and third time i tried to open it, it stopped at 95% loading with that message: "IL-2 6dof/TIR enabled executable for modded IL2 .... " the rest of the message is missing .. i think it should be something like "... does not work".
the second time it started ... but not any more

what do i have to do ??

I downloaded the 1.0 to 1.71 super-pack and put it on a clean version of 4.101 UP3 4RC with everything disabled in JSGME. It wouldn't load. I did the whole thing again and this time DBW 1916 loaded but not DBW. 1916 froze however when I tried to fly a plane. Since 1916 is what I want I then downloaded the 3.4 update and installed that. This was a risk but I read somewhere that the original 1916 was unstable and 3.4 was much better in every way. Now I cannot get DBW or DBW 1916 even to load, whatever I do. I have tried various mods in JSGME but you cannot try every possible variation. This is all very frustrating because I really want to try the 1916 3.4 which looks wonderful.

Anyone got any ideas?

No wonder it doesn't.
You missed the fact that a "1.0 to 1.71" pack naturally requires "1.0" to be there as a starting point.
Since you didn't install DBW 1.0 you missed the prerequisites.

You can either start with DBW 1.1 (includes 1.0) from here: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,16539.0.html
...and put it on top of your "clean version of 4.101 UP3 4RC", then proceed with the "DBW 1.0 to 1.71 SuperPack".

Another possibility would be to use the "Stock 4.07m to DBW 1.71 SuperPack One-Stop Download & Install (the famous SAS F'nBigSuperPack !)" available here:
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,21514.msg239532.html#msg239532

This gets you from any game version of 4.07m or later to DBW 1.71, including all the patches and packs which came inbetween. Since DBW 1.71 includes UP3 RC4 you won't miss anything.

Thanks Storebror. I thought the problem might be some idiotic mistake by me and, lo, it is! Back to work: there will have to be a whole pile more deleting and copying going on.

Alas, the solution still eludes me. I took a clean  4.101 UP3 again and installed DBW 1.1 then the 1.0 to 1.7 pack. Still no joy - no sign of life from DBW though UP3 runs fine. What is more, I tried to run the thing when I had installed 1.1 to check things were working but that wouldn't start either. I only added the super pack in the vain hope that it might sort something out. I still can't escape the impression that I am making some simple, easily corrected mistake but I can't figure out what it is.

Make sure you disabled UP3 in jsgme, then use the selector to switch to DBW and start the game.
Should work.
If not, reinstall from scratch (sorry to say but that's the point where your game is FUBAR if it doesn't work).
When reinstalling you can skip the step of installing UP3 as this is included in DBW already.

One thought just occurred to me. I am one of the dwindling band who still use windows XP. Could it be that XP doesn't support DBW?

No you can easily rule that out. XP is perfectly fine for DBW. Even Win 95 would do.

Victory! The F'nBigSuperpack on a 4.101 base finally did the trick. I guess it gave me the least chance to interfere and screw up. Many, many thanks for your help, Storebror. It is wonderful the way there is always someone to help you out when you get stuck with the technical side of this game
