If you don't already, you should have a dedicated web site for this colorized work. Wonderful stuff. The eyes have life and I can smell the leather.

Thanks for the compliments guys.
@Acred99: I used Topaz DeNoise + DeJpg for cleaning the image globally. And of course some retouching by hand needed to be done for some specific areas.

Well, you may call it fooling around with Photoshop, but that's like saying that artists fool around with oil paint and watercolors ... this is much more than fooling around, it shows a very competent and colorful  use of photo editing skills that I wish I possessed as well ...

Great work.

Yes, I agree with Agracier. I use Photoshop most days in my job, and I think thats a little more than 'fooling around'!

Totally incredible what you have done with the Fokker pic. Hope you can post some more of your aviation based 'fooling' some time.

Wow thanks mate I thought it was a bit more complicated than using a plugin.
I know Topaz is great but it will be wonderful when we have a program that can change those old WWII pictures into beautiful color.
Your photo's inspired me to buy the Topaz Lab stuff.
Thanks for the share.

Well, I never said Topaz just magically changes a grainy black/white picture into a super shard color one. Topaz just has some tools that ease the steps towards creating one. Like removing the grain, removing dithering, color balance and regaining some sharpness and contrast.
But it's not a "one click" - "you're done!" thing, mate!

Thanks for the compliments guys.

Obviously a matter of personal taste how one should be retouching old photos, but here's an example of what is possible with a bit of 'smart sharpen', contrast adjust, Topaz deJpg and color correction

The only problem is that you've "smart sharpened" his freckles away!
