Max mod problem, or something else? ~ SOLVED
« on: January 21, 2012, 02:18:45 AM »

I'm running 4.09m, UP 2.0, lotsa mods, and am starting to freeze up in the middle of flying missions with the accompanying error message:

The instruction at "0x5ed0530e" referenced memory at "0x0000051c". The memory could not be "read".

From previous posts, I see I may be running into the upper limit on mods, and that I can cut them down a bit by adding "//" in front of the air.ini entries to reduce the total modded aircraft count. I've done so quite a bit, but still have the same problem. My question: does adding "//" in front of the default aircraft types help? Also, if I add "-" in front of the non-aircraft mods in the MODS folder, is that also an effective way to reduce the total number? Or are there any other suggestions on how to deal with this problem? Any suggestions appreciated!

Cheers,
Herb

What if you cut lines from the air.ini of planes you don't use into another document. So the game won't load them then allowing you to add more.

it could also be a mod conflict of some sort.....can you test a bit, and see if anything is happening (in game) when the crash happens? possibly an effect, or something else that is happening at a certain point which causes the crash.
this kind of crash is tricky - it could be a memory limit issue, but it could also be certain mods that are interacting at a specific point which causes this.
check your error logs for any info, and post the contents here.
as i mentioned, try and test a bit more, using a specific map/mission, and try to see what might be happening at the time of the crash...
removing as many mods as possible is always a good way to check. add them back, one by one, testing inbetween each, until the problem can be pinpointed.

Yep, it seems to be fixed by drastically reducing my aircraft entries in the air.ini file. I guess I'll start using separate "Pacific" and "Atlantic" air.ini files. Can I deactivate one by simply putting "-" in front of the name, as in "-air.ini"?

You might want to use the latest IL-2 selector which is available here: http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,16403.0.html
That new selector lifts the available slots limit significantly.
It's compatible with UP 2.0 too, just select "Classic Modded Game" as game type for UP 2.

Hi Storebr, I perfectly know my request/question goes beyond the content of this thread but... regarding the new selector it would be interesting to learn a bit a bout the additional parameters which can be set in "expert mode", where could I get more infos about that?
Thks for answering and best regards.

Off topic, don't expect any support in case of errors, use at your own risk and always double-check to be absolutely sure what you're doing.
Here is a list of available parameters, IL-2 supports first column (1.3.1) only:
