World of Tanks Paintschemes
« on: January 19, 2012, 09:48:04 AM »

I decided to try it out as I got more than bored with Russian Green and Panzer Grau and here are the results of some quick Photoshop fun!
Of course only I can see it and it makes no difference to the gameplay mechanics, but it's nice eye candy.  :)
Anyone else feel free to go ahead and share yours in this topic, download links etc. If there is any interest then I am happy to upload them. Anyways, next on my hitlist is the French D2.  8)

MkVII Tetrarch: Originally wanted an urban type camo but the results are abit different but I like alot:

VK3002 DB: Grassy Forest Camo, very effective:

I like that VK skin alot, too bad nobody else but you see it ingame..

I use some skins from WoTskins, or w/e that site is called for my StuG, Hetzer (turtle skin!), T-34, MS-1 and a few others.
Biggest problem I see is that you cannot select a specific skin for a specific map. Which should be changed imho to make the camo schemes actually effective.

Btw; seeing your ingame name...
I think i've seen you a few times, might even have blown you up, back in the era before Playback was introduced, sadly. :p

I think everyone has killed me before, I'm the one that drives straight for the enemy in a failing Blitzkrieg kind of way almost always resulting in my immediate death~  :D
I have learnt to change those tactics, this is unfortunately a very patient game and I'm simply not the camping type. Once you get to like tier 7, since I am going for the Panther, I will have to buy a premium tank if I want to earn credits far easier. The repair bill on my VK is horrendous, I often lose credits repairing it. I just need my crew back to 100% so they can start using their skills and I'll be much more effective at killing the mediums.

Hopefully they will introduce a paintscheme kind of system where the file is stored temporarily on the server so everyone can see it, or atleast be able to place certain skins in folders for the different maps. But! I think if you go into the WoT files and replace the camoflauge dds files with a custom skin then you and everyone will be able to see it with the bonus effects, but I have not tested this. Especially since the camo files only appear to be an overlay because they are off a reduced size (256x256 or 512x512) compared to the tank skins which are 2048x2048 or 2048x1024.

However the possiblites for skins are quite large. Because the game uses the standard paint dds, a bumb/height map dds and also a diffuse and lighting map. You can modify all of these for some impressive and realistic results I bet.

I think they should ad 4 or 6 (two or three for each team) minefields that could spawn. One or more would appear for each side, and the ones for your team would be marked off on your map, but the opposing team's would not be. could add a interesting new threat...

Yes, and I am also eagerly awaiting the infantry and off map artillery/air strikes to be created. This series has so many possibilites for creating the most immersive combat game ever devised, the developers are geniuses, and once again-RUSSIAN!

Oh, so every time I see a rush-nub, I can comfortably say it's you?? :D ;) LOL!

I really think this game is almost definable as a semi-sim in certain aspects.
But WG should not implement new things first but fix old bugs instead.

Matchmaker fails almost every single time for many tanks, and with the recent 2 patches - and some weird ninja-like 7.1b patch today even, the current view system is really getting on my nerves.
Me and my squaddies are getting pissed off so bad we even considered quitting... It's frustrating to see a 30+ ton piece of rolling and shooting metal dissappear into thin air less then 100m away from you..

With all patches going on the French have been a very welcome addition to my food supply... StuG loves French tanks, stupid frustrating pieces of cannon fodder they are.. (especially low tiers and heavies!)
The Type-59 Nerf and store removal; finally, much needed. No idea what a 1960's tank is doing in battles with 1930's and 1940's tanks anyway..
The camo schemes; can't be arsed about them, they suck anyway until they find out a new view system and a real working camo system.
The "HE-nerf" no idea what was nerfed, but my Hetzer, M2 with 75mm howitzer and other HE using tanks think not much was nerfed anyway..

And the new armor system was quite a welcome upgrade aswell, since it made lots of my tanks very less vulnerable, so survivability went up.
Downside of that all, is the immensely insane amount of 0-dmg crits, dings and bounces..  But proper aiming solves alot of that.

:)

WG should fix, not implement..but I think most players currently feel about it this way..

This bounce thing... since i saw a IS bouncing a 150mm shell from my E-100 on the test server, i saw bad things where coming. But as u already said, it forced me to improve my aim, and to search better knowledge about the weak spots of other tanks.

Ah, and i only owned the E-100 on the teste server. i'm stil lstruggling with my "money eater" Tiger 2 :P

I play on the US server.

The matchmaking is a pain unfortunately, and I agree, it would be really nice to have a new game mode or get more of the bugs fixed and mechanics of the game reviewed and tweaked, especially the horrible view range part. Mostly on tanks I just shoot at the view ports, the gun barrel, machine gun swivel turrets etc and the lower part of the tank where there is usually less armor. Also, shooting front on is better than shooting at an increased angle. The only thing that really annoys me is the french light tanks - they have OP sloped armor which you just can't penetrate.

I just bought a Char B2 premium tank and the matchmaking is really good. It's a tier 4 Heavy tank (well actually classed as medium) and I get placed at the top of the ladder every battle and just dominate, then the only thing that can stop me is the other 3 heavy medium tanks, TD's and SPG's. But if those are not fully upgraded and elite then they will have a very rough time. It's funny because about 1/3 of my team was versing about 1/3 of theirs and eventually they killed my team till I was the only one left, and so I had to fight 5 tanks on my own lol. Guess who won?

I did!  ;D 8) Went on to get my first elusive top gun! The most fun I've had on a tank lately. I also owned it during open beta and fell in love with it's surpemeness even back then when the matchmaking was even worse, so yesterday I bought it again. I've only done 5 battles but have destroyed around 17 tanks.  :P

You sure it's the US server? ;)

I'm on EU, but you are right about those French, they are sooo weird.
Totally OP armor on some tanks and the most unimpressive speed and guns.

I made it into a D2, got frustrated and now I just take my frustration out on them with my other tanks. :D
Those silly frogcookers with their croissantlaunchers are just not my cup of tea, and so far i've only been killed once by a French tank.

Funny buggers they are... Ok, higher tiers actually DO hurt..

Quite alot..

On my unarmored TD..

Lol!

The B1 (and the B2 too, ofc) are really herd nuts to crack. i remember once getting in a fight against 2 of them in my AMX40 (a light tank, but it behaves like a mini heavy tank), with the 75mm gun, and we are the last 3 surviving tanks. for about 6 minutes, all we could do was bounce each other's bullets. Then i realized i had the bigger gun, so i came a bit closer to them and started shooting point blank. yet, i had several bounces, but i managed to destroy one before the time run over :P
