Morning Fellow Pilots:
Last night I had my first round with The Beast. I feel like I deserve some kind of diploma this morning. Someone from Thrusmaster should have sent me a congratulatory message. Something like "Hey, you programed our stick and did not put a hole in the wall with your fist, Congratulations, you are the first one this year to do that".
Let me give you the bottom line up front (aka BLUF) Its buggy but workable and the reward is great. The feel of the stick is more than "I have a steel stick and its pretty" This is one precise and sturdy piece of hardware.
Night One. I started programing early in the night. Two hours later I was struggling with a couple of buttons and learning what things do. i.e. Hold = Will hold a command as long as you hold a button. Some aspects of TARGET are brilliant. Some are tricky. I am a Saitek man so any new programing is going to kick my a$$. No surprise there. However there are a couple of buttons that just seem unruly. They have a mind of thier own... I say, "Ok, skip this part, I will learn how to deal with them later"
My first mission: Take off in 109E, Trim dont work (got to fix that, my fault not the sticks) Come up behind a bunch of Blenheims. Line up, the stick is as steady as the probevial ROCK. FIRE! after two seconds I get a very satisfying fireball.

Wow, that was good!

Ok, this is a test... So back to base... I line up on the runway and do the easiest landing ever. I take a very satisfied look at the Joy and say good night.

Spend the next 5 minutes wishing I had more time to play.

Ok, so its not a bad stick. Lessons learned:
1. Dont try to program this and take a quick flight when you got 10 minutes to spare. More like, tell your manager and ask the wife for some alone time. You got the Warthog...They will understand.
2. I could have gone with No Profile and just used the regular button command but where is the fun in that?!

3. Figure out what you want buttons to do before you save and exit out of your profile. i.e. Do a few buttons, try them in the game, do a few more, try them in game... You get the picture.

4. Save everything! Hit save everytime you do something. Use word or wordpad to make sure the keys you want are in there.
5. I keep a record of everything I do on Excell. No Excell=Brain Explosion.
Ok, I am working on the profile still. I used to run out of buttons. Now I nearly run out of commands. Its got more buttons than Miss Universe got teeth.

I hope to have it done by the end of the week. I will update.
Have a great flight!
