A better currency analogy:

You have a savings of $1000.00 and someone offers you 20 smackeroos (fictitious currency of course) for free. But the catch is, once you take the 20 smackeroos, you have only limited access to all your old savings and all future financial transactions you do will have to be done in smackeroos.

@agracier

This is a truly appropriate analogy...and I'm afraid of it!

Lol agracier :) All future transactions until the next freebie that is...which might revert back to $, but having dropped out of circulation all the denominations you used to know and love from before, or might be in Wonga instead... It's the new guessing game that's fun for all the family ;)

Personally once all the new planes/objects from 4.11 are ported into 4.10 I will be more than happy to remain with DBW 1.7!

I think most of the planes already have been!

BTW Did anyone manage to get 4.11 to play without the 'No_CD' il2fb.exe? I even installed the fix but still got asked for the CD everytime - i've now got the 3rd party Modact so no probs since.

Me, being from Connecticut, let me give an American perspective>>>

"...and thank you to all the modders and to TD for the free $$$1,000 dollars...your work is greatly appreciated and will further advance an already great game..."

Nice. That's my answer too. I was just trying to be more "world" and less "American" since many here aren't (I'm in KY)....

making153- noCD exe works fine on 4.11 just save off your old one and drop it in.

Barely an American exclusive ;) Nobody has, that I've seen, ever denied this - 4.11 has, uniquely, met with universal praise. Indeed, there is no group like a modding group to understand the amount of work TD has done - modders know :)

However, the question still remains about the persistent changing of format, or currency as it were. I know you don't seem to see this as an issue - but I promise it is. The fact that SAS currently supports 3 different versions of the stock game says it all really. What a massive waste of time and effort (although it says great things about the site and community). Again, it's not that I, or indeed anyone as far as I've seen, is ungrateful or disapproves or would rather there were no patches at all or anything silly like that. It's purely about why official patches undermine...shall we say 'unofficial' patches ;)

Not really all that stressful, but it'd be lovely if whatever issues behind it got straightened out :)
