By the right place, do you mean in the correct file or in the correct place in the correct file? The instructions for the planes and mods just say to enter them in certain files. Does it matter where they go in those files? Can I just add them on to the bottom of the existing entries or is there some specific order they need to go in?

He means you need to put the entries in the right ini. file (Static.ini, Ship.ini, Air.ini etc.)
Basically it doesn't matter where you put the entry in that particular file. When you put it on top it will show up first in the ingame object viewer when you select the object, ship, plane or whatever.

About the problems you have with showing screenshots in the forum: create an account at Photobucket (yes, it's free!) and upload your image.
Then mouse over the thumbnail and in the scroll down screen copy the IMG code and paste it in your comment.
That's it!

There are no harm in asking, but obviously you need info much more info. If you taake a bit more time reading topics . You actually going to spend less time modding the game, than if you have to reinstall.
You will find many tutorials about modding the game here

Well, obviously I need much more info because I can't even get one simple add-on airplane to work. I am trying to get just one plane to work, just one (for now), the F9F-2 Panther SAS v1.8_4101. At first I was trying to make it work with the plane mod files in the MODS directory and the one line entered in the air.ini. This always resulted in the game loading to 70% and CTD. So then I see that the mod files are to go into the #SAS directory (Do they go into the #SAS directory or do they go into some directory inside the #SAS?). I did this and made sure the F9F-2 entry was in the air.ini file. That should be all I need as far as I can tell. I try to launch IL2 in both the Classic Mod Game mode and the SAS Modact 3 mode. Still, either way, it gets to 70% and CTD.   :o I guess i will try a different plane and see what that does.

Okay I made some progress (I think...). I figured out that I have to put an actual aircraft folder (i.e. an F9F-2 Panther folder) in the #SAS folder, not just the contents of the aircraft folder. So then I can actualy get the game to load, but only in the SAS Modact mode. If I try the classic mod game, I get CTD. Once I get the game loaded, I can see the plane in the list in the mission builder. I try to load a mission and I see it loading the usual stuff. It gets to 100%... and stops. Nothing after that. It just sits there at 100% telling me to stand by. I left it there for several minutes and nothing happened. So I went into the object viewer and it wasn't even in the list. What now???

Maybe you missed some file for the F9F, not sure but it's likely you need other mods for the F9F.
Why don't you try DBW, you have many mods already packed together

Brett,
Go here and at the bottom of the first post is an attachment, download it and extract to your #sas/F9F2 Panther folder (if thats where you've got it installed) and you should be good to go, that cured the 100% hang problem for me.

Hope this helps

Cheers

It worked!!! Hallelujah!!! There is a God!!! (Okay I knew that already...) Anyway, it loaded and I can move around it and move the flight controls. Will test fly it tonight. Kinda strange that I still didn't see it in the object viewer.

And yes OberstDanjeje, I have every intention of trying DBW and a bunch of others. I DL'ed UP the other day. Which one should I try first? Does it matter?
