Be nice to see a mission with this bird fighting alone because after the bombs where dropped by the B-17's the YB-40 could not keep up the speed of the B-17's on the return flight because it was too heavy

This plane should be a problem to fly... But it has tons of firepower.

YB-40 Bomber Escort
« Reply #15 on: April 06, 2014, 10:35:16 PM »

I know I'm really new to this, but I'd really appreciate it if someone took the time to take on making a fully functional model of the YB-40. It was an "Escort Bomber" designed out of a B-17 to blend in with the rest of the bomber flight and pack one heck of a whollop when the enemy fighters came in to attack. I'd like to be able to fly and man the turrets of this beast in escort of a flight of bombers. I don't have any modding skill, just the basics to download and install the mod or I'd be more than glad to help out. I really appreciate ya'll taking the time to read this. I hope you'll consider helping me out. Thank you guys and gals!

While I was working on a new B-17 here.... https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=40865.0

Max told me about trying the B-17 YB 40. I just may. It seems there were many different versions including the nose and tail turrets from the B-24.

If I were to try this, I would need someone who could work on the 3D part to remove the area where the radio room is to give it the look of the YB-40.

Interesting mission where the YB-40 showed both its virtues and its defects. I have no idea if it's true, but it's a good story.

While overweight and useless against massed fighters, the YB-40 was perfect for this very specialized role:
