Dawn Patrol in the Dark Blue World: 1916
« on: December 08, 2011, 07:19:29 PM »

I've put together a A 20+ mission campaign for a WWI British fighter pilot in the Somme for Dark Blue World. 1916.

*** Correction posted at M4T ***
Thanks to Toasted_Toad (see below) for finding this bug. When playing with a low rank, the player was placed in the wrong aircraft in mission 3. This is corrected in version 1-1 (link below is correct).

http://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads3&file=details&id=1007

This campaign is loosely based on events in the Somme battle-front in 1916. It is by no means based on fact, though it is loosely based on real events of the period. In short, this campaign is more Hollywood than history.

Prerequisites

This campaign requires the SAS Dark Blue World mod pack. For information, see: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?board=189.0

Installation and Settings
Decompress the DawnPatrolBlueWorld zip file to a temporary location.
Copy the decompressed Missions folder and the decompressed PaintSchemes folder to your IL-2 1946 root folder.
You must select Dark Blue World 1916 from the selector when opening IL-2 .
Open the campaign in the RAF campaigns option.
I recommend turning off No Instant Success for this campaign.
The campaign is designed to be compatible with any rank selection.
Credits
Thanks to the SAS team for bringing us Dark Blue World, and the Dark Blue World 1916 option.
Thanks to MaxtheHitman for the custom skins I used in this campaign.

Thanks for the kind words Toasted. I know that most people think that campaign builders just do this for the adulation, the women, the Time Magazine cover shots, etc.

But I want you all to know...the comments from users mean a lot  to us too. Not as much as the adulation, the women, the Time Magazine cover shots, etc. mind you...but they mean a lot.

Yes. I am looking at doing something with the Italian map. I may also do a German version of  the existing campaign, but I think I want to do the Italian map campaign first. Then maybe on  to 1917...

I still prefer flying WWII planes, but I was surprised at how much fun these planes are to fly.

@ vonofterdingen,

Have started your campaign and am enjoying it, what.

Only one problem, on the 3rd mission the "IL2 campaign manager" butts in and won't let me lead the flight as a sergeant or a pilot officer.

It throws me into a bomber instead (I don't want to be a bus driver  ;)  ).

Any ideas other than a higher rank?

Good stuff, thanks mate.

Cheers,

Toasted_Toad - I think you need to disable QMBPro in JSGME for this to work.

Toasted_Toad,

I meant for you to be able to fly at any rank, and the issue you found is due to an error I made. I will post a correction later today. I want to recheck all of the missions, so it will take me some time. Since you are in Australia, I should have the fix posted by the time you have your first beer and banger. If you want to fix it yourself, and are familiar with the FMB, load the 3rd mission and change the English Bomber's squadron to any squadron other than the default "United Kingdom - <none>". The English bomber in question is flying out of a base northwest of your base in Albert

Thanks for letting me know about this!

Correction has been posted at M4T (see first post in this thread). The link is the same to take you to the new version, 1-1.

Well, Boomer's "fix" fixed it concerning those maps not loading.  I had one devil of a time finding it, but man, when you are as old as me, it's really difficult sometime to follow what's being put out here.  And that isn't you guy's fault.  It's just me.  So thanks for all the info that is imparted. :)
