A6M Zero skin problems in UP3 RC4 + DBW 1.5

I'm relative new to modpacks and I noticed the new zero 3d models, my questions are:
#1 are my old skins 100% unusable?
#2 will dgen still work with the new zeros?
#3 what are the correct skin folder names for them? (because for some types skins dot appear in the list)

Well, the first colum in the air.ini are the name for the skin folder, so A6M-21Late, A6M-21LateFM, A6M-NLate, ecc.
The old skins are unusable with the new JapanCat 3D.
I don't know for sure but I don't see any problem with the dgen mission

#3 is solved (empty skin folders/nothing to load)
and now i'm sure that i didnt screw up my install somehow

imho they should have kept the original zeros and add these as a slot/ or optional

I know what you are saying, and I was disappointed that many of the quality skins I had for the previous Zero's didnt work anymore, but JapanCats updated 3D versions are so superior to the originals, I think its a price worth paying.

Hopefully, the authors of the original skins might do updates (hint, hint!)

I have to agree with Vpmedia. The replacement of the old Zero models with the new ones by Japancat is the only thing I don't like in UP/DBW. Sure, the new models are better, but making them available as separate slots would have been the better solution.

That all the old Zero skins can no longer be used in the modded version of the game is not the only issue. From a campaign builders point of view, the main problem is that a campaign or mission with non-default Zero skins for the unmodded stock version of the game will no longer automatically be compatible with the modded game, as it was in the past.
A number of people complaint to me over the last months, that my DGen campaigns for the Pacific don't work properly with UP/DBW because of issues with the old skins. In the future I have to create two separate versions of the campaigns, one for mod users and one for non-mod users, which means extra work, just because some 3D models were changed.

I would not change stock stuff...why create incompatibility issues if it can be done in a different way?
Btw I was making/collecting these skins since 2004 now I can throw them out because of SLIGHTLY better 3d models...redoing 100-150 different skins is not an option for me, sorry.

My main concerne are not the skins, but the fact that missions/campaigns for the stock game are no longer compatible with the modded version of the game. For me as a campaign builder this is a worrying trend, if it will in the future affect other plane models too. It will create an unnecessary split between the stock game and the modded version.

Like everybody else I like to see better 3D models, but maybe it is possible to do the mapping of improved aircraft models in a way that they are still compatible with older skins. In the past we had reworks of other 3D models (for example the Ju-88) and most older skins still work with the new models, so I guess it is possible.

Well, like, Crazy says, there is an easy option if you feel so strongly. Just remove them and go back to the old ones. And then, download the stand-alone pack if you want the new ones. 'Zero' hassle!

this way i'm incompatible with the clean 4.10 campaigns
that way I'll be incompatible with the UP3 + DBW installs

the only way to ensure compatibility is to have both old and new zeros which is a much more complicated edit

I would call that a worst case scenario, because that would fuck the stock crowds skins too :)

Btw I managed to restore old 3d (thanks CrazyFlak!) to the japanese Zeros:

Extract zip to your #DBW or #UP# folder, folders name is "_0OLD_ZEROS_PACK".
The new Zeros remain the same, only changed those with skin compatibility issues.

I did a quick testing so I'd appreciate bug reports.

I am not a mod expert, but wouldn't it be possible to make the texture mapping of the new 3D model compatible with the old skins? Then we could have both, better models and compatibility with the stock game. I never understood why Japancat had to do a completely new mapping just because of some minor 3D changes. Maybe one of our experts can comment on that.
