Short Invisible Runways
(1/1)
Plowshare:
Hi all:
I think I address those that are ship builders but maybe someone else can help.
To preface: I'm using DBW exclusively and yes, it's modded up a bit.
One problem with Runways 4, 5, and 6 as they are now is that you can't cross runways placed on a map and be able to use them. Another is that with the size of them the more probability there is to hit a higher elevation in the surrounding ground and thus raise the runway up a bit.
So, with these two thoughts in mind, is there some way to make an invisible runway that is only 50m or 60m or so long? It could be as wide as Runway 4 but less would be better.
The reason for this is so we can set up take off points on something other than the runway icons in coop and single missions. Yes, I could use the Dogfight server and choose spawn points but I like the structure of coop. Besides, I don't think you can use dogfight mode for campaigns can you? Never tried it myself so I don't know. And another thing: FMB has the limitation as well so it makes it tough to put together a mission and try it out for timing.
On a related note: Could take off points be restricted to 2 aircraft in line abreast? I could see using this feature for starting in a large revetment or hangar with another person in the other plane.
Finally, could these shortened Stationary Ships be lowered 10cm? Currently they are that much higher than the ground when placed on a flat surface. This is no big deal now we have the wide and the square invisible runways to smooth out an area but it might be nice to not have to use them.
Thanks for the consideration.

Thanks for the reply.
I understand now about the runways but I thought these invisible runways were like aircraft carriers. They're in Stationary Ships and a few of them are in Ships and can be 'sailed' (had some fun with these a while back trying to take off after two had collided and started to sink!).
That's what gave me the idea they could be shortened - like the difference between say, the Sara, the Belleau Wood, and the Casablanca.
Ok then. We'll drop the issue and leave things as they are.

Yes, the falling off part has been an issue up to now but, with the new, wider runways (including that great wacking square one), you can slap a narrow one down for your plane to use and then a wider one right over top; this way you have no drop-off. The issue of crossing ground runways can be worked around as I found out by just having to watch for things like the rise in ground level and accepting that you're going to start either parallel to the runway or facing any degree away from it.
One other benefit I've noticed using these runways is that aircraft wheels will keep rotating right up to the moment you stop the plane. On the bare ground the wheels seem to stop at about 1-2kts of speed.
