Can anyone identify this plane?
« on: November 25, 2011, 06:25:08 AM »

I got this a couple of days ago, been trying to identify it since.
I suspected it was an IJA plane, probably a Ki-45 or something but no clear idea.  >:(
Maybe that mark on the nose gives a clue...

Oh! This is a tough one...

Is it camouflaged? I ask as I see no picture...

It might be an Avro Anson although I have my doubts. It seems to be a very similiar aircraft though. Any more information? Note the windows and engines.

Is there any idea of location? "On 11 June 1948, Avro XIX G-AGNI of Lancashire Aircraft Corporation ditched off Bradda Head, Isle of Man due to fuel exhaustion. The aircraft was operating a scheduled passenger flight from Squires Gate Airport, Blackpool to Ronaldsway Airport, Isle of Man via RAF Walney Island, Lancashire. All nine people on board were rescued by a trawler from Port Erin and the MV Silkthorn."

But your photo looks like a civlian aircraft...

Verhängnis, I think the Anson's cabin is much wider than this one, this looks like it has a single row for crew. The same thing for the Electra i think.

I'm sorry guys i have absolutely no idea about the location of the picture or any other info. I found it casually in a wallpaper pack.

The best clues IMO are: the markings on the nose, and that unique style cabin frame.

It's a Beechcraft AT-7 Advanced Trainer, I think. See the distinct windscreen framing and also the oblong view port above the pilot's head? It matches the framing of the glazing on the original pic.

I'm 99% certain.

Yes, i think it resembles the Beechcraft. the only differences I see are:
1. the frame here is thinner
2. the angular part of the windshield has a horizontal lower edge while the one on the first picture has an angled one.

Still, i think this is the closest match so far, and they might be different versions of the same model.

Nice found dinosaurJR!

Beechcraft was my first instinct right off the bat. I wonder if the Japanese made any copies?

Yes, it's probably a Beech 18.  A civilian plane. Often used as a "corporate plane" in the '50s and '60s in the US. (In fact the P-38/-51 fighter aces John Landry and Jack Ilfrey were pioneering corporate pilots that flew the Beech 18 after WWII)
Just do a Goolge Image search for Beech 18 and you will see a million pictures of them.  There were many different variations so don't worry too much about the details.  It's a Beech 18.

Reminds me of the Japanese transport aircraft from Letters from Iwo Jima.
