Hey folks, need some help and advice. I've all but finished the D0 model for the Junkers 322 and I need some people with experience to give it the once over. Especially as I have little experience with modding Il 2 and want things to work well.

Here's what i've done so far. All help, advice and comments welcomed.

All I can suggest is increasing the poly count along the leading edge to get it smooth and fixing smoothing groups using the modifier. Also the wing tips should be absolute straight, there is no curve, same with evelator. Given the low poly count, I reckon you should add any extra details that you want.

From what I can see, you really need to sort out your smoothing groups. IL-2 takes the shading etc directly as you see it in Max. The *ahem* special project I am working on at the moment was a dog in this respect. I ended up de grouping, unwelding, re grouping and re welding pretty much everything in Milkshape 3D, then and only then was the mesh smoothing tool in Max of any use to me.

It looks to be a good solid model, though. What is the poly count?

@Verhängis Yes I seem to have neglected the leading edge, should have added more vertices when I started it. I thought the wing tips should be flat. Working from what blueprints I have it didn't seem right to me.

@dinosaurJR Smoothing groups, I need to take a look at the Il 2 Modding Bible again then. The poly count is 2,823 but really its about the Triangle count which is 4,347.

@razor1uk Ah yes Wikipedia Should I really trust the information presented to me there? lol

4000 is very low. Your D0 model without damage meshes and LODs can go as high as 20,000 with each mesn part (WingLIn, FuseAft etc...) as high as 3000 polys. The nature of the models and the close scrutiny they get in IL-2 really demands some fastidious but high detail work.

That said, the model you have is a very good start. Also you don't need to go right up to the poly limit...

Good job so far, though.
