Hey, this is a nice one guys; installed these SFS + all other files, backed up all original. First time start up gave a CTD. Well back to the old ones than; only XP will no longer save it as .RC. And it was there all the time with this name.
How can I solve this??

Sorry, SAS Modact 3.6 on 4.101

CTD would be from not editing something correctly I imagine
and yes, windows will not create an .rc file as .rc is NOT a known windows file extension

You always need to copy paste this file somewhere else for backup
you can not create this file  ;)

Hi Boomer, thanks for your response; what do you mean  with 'not editing something correctly'? There's nothing to edit (?)
I re-dl'd the SFS files, placed them into the main IL-2 folder, replaced my .RC file and static.ini files with the ones with the ones from IL-2 SAS and moved my 'old' objects out of the #SAS# folder. That's how I read your installation instructions.
According to Circx' The % Crash Troubleshooter, a 5% CTD points to a missing / damaged SFS file.

About 'backing-up' I normaly use Ctrl/C than Ctrl/V giving you a 'copy of ....' only this time that didn't work as I could not change the name back to the original.

Edit; just saved myself by extracting the original .RC  again. Guess the renaming issue is an XP issue, perhaps a warning could be placed on
pag 1 saying just move the original don't rename?
But I'm still wondering why I got a CTD in the first place>

Glad you got it working

I was just posting on the .RC file extension thing you come across
Yes,there is no such file extension in windows so it does not reconise it thus will not save then

I edit the file with TextPad,a free text editor that can be downloaded
after editing the file,I just close the text editor and click yes to save changes
I also copy and paste the file as is,to somewhere else for back up
never trying to rename it ,if needed I would create a folder and name it to paste the file into

Cheers, good to see you over come it  :)

Hi Boomer are you responding to my first (nr. 34) post? I still got the problems as stated in answer 37. With my original .rc IL-2 starts up but can't find the objects.

Hi, I finally found it; the combi that works for me - 4.101 & ModAct 3.06 - is the four SFS files in the main Il-2 folder, Static.ini from the first 'original' objectspack + the lines @sfs MOUNT up_objects01.sfs etc added to the .RC that came with ModAct 3.06. Works like a charm, saves all maps  :)

I am running 4.101m with SAS Modact 3.06. I am wanting to run the WestFront44 map. I finally got the map up in FMB, but it will not save.
I have all the objects installed and ran the static.ini checker. I had no missing objects. Any ideas on why it is not saving?

Thanks!

Hi, I can back MrKilroy up here,

I have recently installed these object packs and have placed all the correct entries in the ini and rc files. I have Modact 3.06 in a 4.10.1 install with only custom mods, I don't have UP or DBW or anything like that.

I just tried to save a mission on Canons '43 channel map. And like so many describe, no save.  >:( I used the static.ini checker and it all seems okay. I assume all the objects are in the .sfs files for this to be the case, however, I used that utility to also check for missing 3do objects and, hey presto, it reports about 4000 objects which aren't in there, supposedly, many of which are required by the canon map.

This, as far as I can tell is why it isn't saving... but the objects are in there, aren't they?! Do I need to place the .sfs files in another location or edit the static.ini or .rc files differently? It is confusing and frustrating because to me it seems like it's loading some objects but completely ignoring the majority of others...  :'(

It is very strange as I have the UP weapon objects such as the new bombs and repainted drop tanks and parachutes, etc. etc.  :-\

Any ideas? Would love to make a mission on canon's map!  :(

Michael.

PS: It's 5:00am UK time here and for whatever reason I haven't slept yet so please forgive me if any of that sounds too short/grumpy/confusing/rude/tired!

Hi

The static.ini checker ,is just that
It checks that the static.ini has all the info in it that is needed

It Checks that whatever is in an actors.static is in the static.ini
It does not and can not check the actual objects/files and folders or SFS Files

So it only lets you know you have a good static.ini that has nothing missing

Now,if the SFS Files are not mounted correctly in the .RC file
then the objects will not show

Be sure you have the SAS Modact RC File etc.
and not the HSFX RC etc.
Both are available for download on the first page!

Other than that I dont know
it seems to all work ok for me

I even have it working in a basic 4.11 modded install

You,can mount any SFS File into the .RC file
As long as you have downloaded the correct .RC then the SFS Files are mounted for you
It would just need to be extracted correctly and be correctly placed accordingly

4000 aren't there?
definitely something wrong with the way it was installed

You say you placed all the correct entries into the ini and .RC file ?
You do not need to place anything into any file

They are already edited for you,you do not need to edit or place anything in any ini or .RC file
very first download on page one of thread is the .RC file and static.ini needed and in the correct file and folder string for #SAS Modact folder

There are not "so many describing they can not get Canons map to save",just a couple of guys who can not install this correctly
compared to the couple hundred or so downloads of those that have it working fine

The SFS Files go into your Root IL-2 game folder
to sit in the exact same way the default SFS Files sit

and... you do not have to edit anything

I'm not sure,it is simply download and extract correctly
making sure nothing is doubled foldered when extracted

SFS Files go into Root IL-2 folder

The download of the .RC file and static.ini go into the #SAS folder
Be damn sure you are not downloading and trying to HSFX download in SAS Modact
or visa-versa for a HSFX game

Make sure you do not have other .RC files and or static.ini's sitting higher in alpha numerical order in your game that would be read first by game

IL-2/#SAS/STD/.RC
and....
IL-2/#SAS/STD/com/maddox/il2/objects/static.ini

As long as those two files are sitting where I describe above
you do not edit anything!

and... the SFS Files are all in the IL-2 root game folder

It will work fine  ;)

Thanks so much for the lengthy explanation, Boomer.  :)

That all makes sense, but I must apologise, I didn't mean to be impolite/appear stupid, I was doing it last night/very early this morning so that was my biggest problem!  :-[ Turns out I installed everything exactly how I should have done and it was all working perfectly. Basically what I had missed were the airfield plates for Canon's maps. Yep, that's it.  ::) Everything else is cool, I had just assumed these objects might already have been included in the UP sfs files, since all the others required for his map are. Clearly I should've checked!  ;D

Thanks very much anyway for the wonderful object pack - in the last two weeks I've made such an improvement on my already quite heavily modded 4.10.1 with new objects, maps, and default skins (as well as new aircraft, of course), I am less keen to move to 4.11 so soon - how many mods so far do work with 4.11, I wonder?

Thanks again, and my apologies for posting this elsewhere, but you have to thank my tired grouchy 5:00am-no-sleep self for that!  8)

Michael.

PS: You can now expect (hopefully) a V1 hunting mission on Canon's map at some point in the probably far-off future!  :D

yes,that very well could be
Canon is re-doing his map to remove all those plates

So we at UP if I remember correctly actually installed Canons map and airfield plates etc.
all into one specific SFS File unto itself to make updating his map later much easier for us after he gets finished removing all the airfield plates

So in fact you are most likely correct and did not have the airfield plates

I'll check into it,and if in fact this is whats happened I could add an updated
for the specific SFS File needed for the plates

I had no problems with your post,
just creating a whole new thread over it after you posted your question here is redundant

You just have to expect to wait a bit for an answer once in awhile as we all have lives to live,
I am usually away throughout the week and only around on weekends to answer any questions or help out where I can
So it could take awhile for me to get around to reading and posting, specially if the posted question would be on a Monday   :D
It would not be until the following Friday I would even get a chance to read it  ;D

Glad you got it sorted, and it helps knowing the plates are most likely not included, as it has been awhile since this was made up and posted

Cheers  :)

Many thanks Boomer,

Glad I could be a bit of help as well as a nuisance  :P

And I know re. posting the same thing twice and waiting. Normally my more awake and aware self wouldn't have done such a thing out of respect and for other obvious reasons, but when I'm that tired it's almost as bad as being drunk, and when I'm drunk, I'm pretty horrific, believe you me!  ;D And as for a life - as a student on the dead minimum loan who spends all his money on rent and bills (to avoid dying of cold) and food with only enough left over for 1 beer a month, IL-2, sad as it may sound, is a significant part of my entertainment time right now! I only wish I had the talent to give something back (planning for a minor thing is in the pipeline) ... although perhaps had I not spent all my money on booze and nights out for the best part of first year I would be in a better place - first year is always the best, so they say! ::)

I look forward to an update if you do indeed have the time!  :)

Michael.

yes,the plates are not in these SFS Files, there in some other SFS File
if I locate them I could try and add an update to the .rc file and upload the extra needed SFS File for the Airfieldplates

good catch, for sure will help others with basic modded games  ;D
