"Go over me"????
« on: October 03, 2011, 04:14:35 AM »

Hi Guys,
Any idea what this is supposed to mean?

Have wondered from years ago, a mistranslation or a gay reference (not that there is anything wrong with that  ;D )

Was it in use during WWII (American voice I think)?

Am I the only one this bugs as it comes up regularly?

Cheers,

T_T.

are you sure you are understanding it right?

It sounds like you may be referring to a "Cover me"... "cooouuver may" - maybe the speaker is Texan?

Could this be like going "over my head"?
If that's the case, then I think it refers to going to the next level up in an organization chart; usually military.

I'm wondering if "Cover" was maybe mistranslated to "Go over", I'm surprised more people are not hearing this as it is being used a fair bit(in my game at least)

I know there are a lot of folks that turn off the radio traffic so they don't have to listen to the constant chatter, so a lot of folks probably don't even hear the stuff. You may also want to tell us which country is using this radio call that you mention.

Great Briton is the one that says go over me.

@ US_Grant,

Been playing since v 1.0 and never tried it without radiochatter before, how cool  ;D

Especially not having to listen to the Scottish twit in "Green 4" aborting landing and "going around" time and time again.

Particularly appropriate for DBW 1916.

Cheers,

Take it from a fellow "Scottish twit" (thank you very much Mr Toad) he is saying

"He's all over me"... Go back and listen carefully...

I will have to listen very carefully (if I turn the chatter back on).

@ dinosaurJR, no offense matey, I meant it as more to his constant waffle on the radio rather than his origins.

My dad came to Aussie as a "ten pound tourist" when he was 14, I would love to go check GB out one day.

Cheers,

Edit: IL-2 Sturmovik1946/Samples/Speech/ GB/Actor8/ Clear my tail.wav
Have a good listen.
