DBW Airplane questions

Right now I have DBW 1.3 with several mod planes installed and its working fine. I'm thinking of downloading and installing the latest updates for UP3 and DBW. What I want to ask is - will updating affect the mod planes I have installed? Could I just save a copy of my .ini files and copy them back in after the update or will my mods in the DBW folder be affected otherwise? Also I wanted to ask if the airplane limit I've heard about can be circumvented by adding slashes (////-like this) in front of the air.ini entries of planes I don't use to free up a space for another new plane?
