HMS Furious CV
« on: August 07, 2011, 02:13:50 PM »

It struck me while working on Eagle that the hull shape was very similar to HMS Furious.
Furious was another important carrier in the Med, being involved during a number of the key Malta supply missions. She also had a major involvement with the Home Fleet in attacks on maritime targets in Norway.
Main priority remains HMS Eagle but this may come later. The superstructure will need rebuilding to be more authentic looking but its already got the essential characteristics I think.

Perfect choice Ashes. She fought almost every major air-sea battle of WW2, from Norway to the Med and back to North Sea/Norway.

Thx.

Great idea. i love the look of your Eagle.

With HMS Furious, will we be launching off the lower deck? ??? (spawning inside the hangar!!! at start)

ach schaiiisse.

remove their Hitboxes! please..... plleeeease.
it would be a FIRST to start inside a hangar ever. And on a Carrier too!.
or on deck if the plane needs more runway. (how to choose? second runway programmed on the ship?)

I hate the furious, i think she looks ugly and weird with the rounded deck.
But the double hangar made her sooooo interesting! lift off too early, hit the ceiling. have a wind gust, crash into the walls of the Hangar, spreading fuel around , igniting, hangars burning and putting the entire carrier out of action.

Fakk'n dangerous flying i tells ya.

UGLY - HOW CAN YOU CALL HER UGLY.  Only joking, not the prettiest of ships I agree but she had style for her time, sadly her time should have ended around 1930 but she soldiered on, or should that be sailored on !!

Anyway, delighted to see this, I often wondered if anyone would do this type Ashe.

A few strange looking at this ship, but it's a veteran, battle-worthy first true aircraft carrier that took part in two world voynah.
Furious is a pity that did not save as a museum to this day, like the HMS Belfast...

true, so true.
The Brits had a few carriers in the Mediterranean that were very iconic, true cornerstones of the war.
each one had tremendous influence because Britain had relatively few carriers at the time.
They show the immense potential and influence such a ship can have.

The first successful carrier launched air attack in history took off from the decks of HMS Furious.
The attack was in 1918 and was on the Zeppelin hangers at Tondern.
7 Sopwith Camels took part and they destroyed two Zeppelins and their hangers.
The aircraft had to ditch in the sea on their return, landing techniques having yet to be perfected.

Meanwhile the 18in guns formerly carried by Furious had been mounted on Lord Clive Class Monitors. These were used to attack railway bridges on Sept 1918, firing at a range of 33km, the greatest range at which a Royal Naval vessel has engaged a target using guns.

HMS Furious went on to pioneer deck landing techniques including the first night landings on carriers.

kind of like USS Ranger in US service... pioneering all the way, from laying the keel to being destroyed.
