Unfortunately there's no AF and AA setting in conf.ini, this you have to set in your driver settings.
That's the crux between ATI and Nvidia: While for Nvidia the "per application" setting works fine, the quality of AF and AA is sub-par compared to ATI. In turn ATI's CCC doesn't allow you to set AF and AA "per application" like Nvidia does, here you need some 3rd party software like e.g. "ATT", the "ATI Tray Tools".

Anyway, that screenshot looks stunning, it's of much better AF and AA quality than I ever get from my Nvidia 550Ti, particularly the transparency AA is something where Nvidia is way behind ATI.

Best regards - Mike

As for the 'per application' aspect, ATI 12.1 catalyst now has it so one can save different profiles for different profiles for different applications, just like Nvidia... more or less.

They settings for the screenshot/game play is:

AA ~ 4x with edge detect
AF ~ 8x
Tesselation ~ on
Surface Format Optimization ~ on
Vertical Refresh ~ always on
AA Mode ~ Super-Sample AA
OpenGL Settings ~ Triple Buffering

I always get 30+ FPS with heavily loaded screen. Sometimes over Berlin map it drops in the 20's from certain angles. Cockpit view always 40+FPS.

My proccesor is the bottleneck I think.. AMD Athlon X64 5000+ ( dual core, 2.6Ghz). MoBo is Acer WMCP78M. I'm sure more FPS with a 3Ghz+ proccesor. But which one?

I know about the different profiles, but at least the 11.2 CCC (which was the latest I ever tested) wasn't able to automatically select those profiles when IL-2 started, so I had to manually enable the IL-2 profile each time when I've planned to play IL-2. Not convenient at all, add to that the settings always applied system-wide whereas Nvidia applies them per window.

Anyway, maybe that changed with later versions so I might stand corrected here.

Hello, you are right.. not 'automatic' but not inconvieniant either. Can add whatever app one wants.
Cheers.

Hmm. Just installed the latest Cat 12.1 with the new application profiles feature and it does'nt seem to work. You have to point to the .exe file which in this case I suppose is the il2fb.exe, but when sturmovik is launched the settings saved for that profile are not loaded. In the Help section for 12.1 it says 'All settings on the page are saved to the selected profile and used each time the associated application is run'. Now I took this to be Automatic (like nvidia) otherwise what is the point of this feature? Or could it be something to do with the IL-2 selector? Is anyone running 12.1 that has any success or failure stories with this new feature and Il-2 or any other game?

I think the point is that all one needs to do it select what graphics setting is applied to whatever game. Only thing is that you have to manually select it. couple clicks of the mouse, no big deal. I have two settings, IL-2, then everything else. thats all I really need.

Ok. I got the impression that you could leave the default settings on but they changed to whatever was saved for that particular application when you started it and once you quit the game it was back to default again. Seems this no better or different to manually loading the presets like we did before, dunno what the advantage is here. Thanks Jagdwaffe  :)
