Object Naming
« on: June 19, 2011, 10:40:15 AM »

I've noticed a few times as we move away from UP2.01 to 410.1 variants that's there been a couple of object name changes (there may be more than the couple I've noticed).

This only becomes a problem when a mission which was  written in 409 is moved across to 410 and the objects disappear.

For example: Checkyersix's superflak in 409 is:-

Battery88mm     vehicles.artillery.ArtilleryCY6Flak$Battery88mm     2
Battery75mm     vehicles.artillery.ArtilleryCY6Flak$Battery75mm     2
WWIBattery75mm  vehicles.artillery.ArtilleryCY6Flak$WWIBattery75mm  2
Battery85mm     vehicles.artillery.ArtilleryCY6Flak$Battery85mm     1
Arty_Barrage    vehicles.artillery.ArtilleryCY6Flak$Arty_Barrage    1

and in DBW and UP3 it is:-

Battery88mm     vehicles.artillery.Artillery$Battery88mm     2
Battery75mm     vehicles.artillery.Artillery$Battery75mm     2
WWIBattery75mm  vehicles.artillery.Artillery$WWIBattery75mm  2
Battery85mm     vehicles.artillery.Artillery$Battery85mm     1
Arty_Barrage    vehicles.artillery.Artillery$Arty_Barrage    1

so they won't show up if you move a mission over to 410.

Even within 410 I've noticed name changes.

In DBW and UP the US bus is:-

US_Bus                 vehicles.stationary.Stationary$US_Bus (same as 409)

but in the #SAS folder it's:-

Bus_US               vehicles.stationary.Stationary$Bus_US

I know this is only a minor matter, but I thought I would bring it to the attention of the gamers out there.

My solution to finding missing or changed objects is to load the mission in 410's FMB, save it, then compare the mission file with the 409 original, either in notepad or using some tool such as WinMerge.

If noticed that some campaigns won't load in DBW.

A couple more differences between UP2.01 and DBW if you are transferring missions from the first to the latter.

There's no ShiPack in DBW so any ShiPack objects won't show in DBW.

Fortunately many of the ships are in DBW, so if you open the mission in notepad and change it e.g

  1_Chief ShipPack.HMSFiji 1 0 0 1.0

to

  1_Chief Ships.HMSFiji 1 0 0 1.0

you'll get away with it.

Check the ships section of technics.ru to see which ships are availble in DBW.

The other item I noticed is more of a problem, and that's some of the RAF squadron names have been changed (I've only noticed a couple so far).

RAF_No14SQN has now become RAF_No014SQN in DBW

and

RAF_No85SQN has now become RAF_No085SQN in DBW

and there may be more....

Now the problem here is load a mission in 2.01 with an incorrect squadron name and the squadron name will revert to 'USSR<none>', but it will still load and play. Not so in DBW - load a mission with an incorrect name, if it's the player's sqn, you'll end up with the half ground/half sky screen, but pressing the 'ESC' key should get you out of trouble.

Good Luck - Redfox
