[MOD] NEW BIG MIDEAST MAP V2.00beta2
« on: May 11, 2011, 02:18:01 PM »

Hi everybody,

I've been working in an Extended version of the Mideast Map and I think that it will be good to make a beta release of it in order to get your feedback.

You'll find it at http://www.gamefront.com/files/20321483/MideastBIG+v2.00beta2+by+Nounette.rar
For those who have already installed v1.03 you'll note that this version has been upgraded to IL2 4.10.1 with HSFX 5.0.1 (previous version was on IL2 4.09 with UP 2.01)

Edit: I've just tested it on v4.09 and it loads correctly.

The release includes:
1) A geographical extension to the west from Port Said to Alexandria and to the south to include the whole Sinai Peninsula and a part of the Red Sea.
2) Some fixes to the previous release (specially land leveling of some airfields) and a few additional features.

The geographical extension already has:
- Coasts and rivers
- Roads, railways and bridges
- Terrain textures
- A good deal of airfields
- The main cities identified and marked with city textures

New cities are still not populated with buildings -will come in a future release- but this will not prevent you from flying or from giving us your feedback.

Someone from the IAF team is now helping me. He is working in recreating the real layouts of the Israeli airfields (today all airfields have only one runway) but it will take some time before it's done.

I hope you enjoy it and I'll be looking for your feedback.

Cheers,

N

PS: I've been discussing with some people about possible campaigns and it would be great to have new mods for missing planes (for '48 war and up). If someone is able to develop some of those mods please contact me.

The new map

Wow! With just a couple of more jets then this map will se a LOT of action. Well done. Thanks for this monumental effort!

You could perhaps try and use Autopop for the cities?

Installed everything, Objects, updated statics, still I recieve an error Message while attempting to load in FMB.
section [MAP2D] not found in 'maps/MidEastBIG/load.ini

updated
Got it working by renaming the entry:
from
Nou_MidEastBIG MidEastBIG/load.ini
to
NouMidEastBIG MidEastBIG/load.ini

and renaming folder in ...\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\#SAS\MAPMODS\Maps...
from mideast to MidEastBIG

Anyway, glad it works, South of Gaza there are some trees in the Water, off the shoreline. Map looks good so far. I have some friends in Tel Aviv, from pictures and their descriptions I know its pretty hard to depict, cause of the different types of soils, plants etc. on such a small place. They showed me pics just a few Miles off the coast from a hillside, the forest could have been just as in Central Europe. But they have a unique type off city structure down there, and that's exactly what reminds me of Israel on first sight when I flew over your populated areas. Keep up the work and thanks for sharing this Masterpiece

Thanks to all for your feedback !! Please continue like this.

@Poltava: thanks for the info. I've took a look to the autopop tutorial and it seems a little complex to use (in addition I already have plenty of populated cities with the textures I'll use for the new ones). I think that the old copy/paste will do it better :)

@Knochenlutscher: Yes, you are right. My mistake. I've used the old installation pack folders (for the small map) and I forgot to change the folder name :(

@Remontnik: Indeed ! I didn't try to go through the channel with a vessel. I see if I can correct it for the next version :)

Cheers,

That's almost exactly the area I currently test for  FreeFalcon5.5.5-a little smaller. :D
I could post some previews lol..but I don't wanna get banned here for flooding a decent map thread.  :)

If you need help regarding RL airbase locations and satellite views let me know.
Actually FF's Israel theatre looks really kickass even in WIP, especially airbases. (And modern jet skins like Sufa etc.)
Okey, carry on. :)

Hi Tom,
In fact you can take a look of some previews of my map at http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,15059.0.html (the thread for the previous -smaller- version of the map).

Any help is appreciated, specially concerning airbases as there will be a whole rework on them (a member of IAF team is collecting information and working on that part). Please contact me by PM concerning that.

Cheers,

Nounette!

You are doing a great job here!

Obviously you can't use the same map for 1948 campaigns and those set in 1967. What are your thoughts here? Multiple versions like The Slot, or do you just aim for a more modern version of the area?

Hi Poltava,
As far as I know most of the airfields (at least in Israel) have stayed the same way the 40s to the 60s (they were built by the British during WWII).
We should may be add some new cities and changing some names for a 67 campaign but I don't think it would be a very hard work.
Someone also proposed an hypothetical campaign the same map during WWII supposing the British were defeated at El Alamein and Palestine became the new theater of operations.
In any case, by the moment I focus my efforts in finishing the 1940s map and creating the 48 campaign.
Updates for a 67 map will come later :)

I test Six Day War '67-a dynamical campaign, asked fellow team members who posted
the data for permission to share their image data. In any case I can pm the position of those bases, took a number of screens on the map. Will keep you posted.
Cheers,
Tom
