L-72 (Stinson L-5 with trike gear)
« on: March 21, 2011, 02:02:56 PM »

Yes, I know this doesn't exist, but I have a dream of putting non-military aircraft into IL2.  :P

It's supposed to resemble a Cessna 172, hence the name "L-72".

Default skin (shown) is by Maxthehitman.  :) Thanks for the skin, max!  ;D

BUT there's a problem with the hooks I'm guessing. On a ground start mission, when I start the engine-
the rear landing gear sinks into the ground. I haven't figured that out yet.  ::)

I take no credit for the model. It was made by Flakiten.  ;)

With all due respect, your mod looks damn close to a Piper Tripacer, hope the following rant doesn't upset you.
Calling it an L-72 totally ruined it for me.

-The only thing it shares with the 172 is the tricycle gear, nice try. I flew a Cessna 172, N5427E yesterday and it looks VERY different hehehee. Square the wingtips/elev/vertical stab and add two more ppl on the side, straighten the nosegear, then you got a franken 172.

PS: You mod is awesome, but its designation seems completely off, calling a franken-Piper Tripacer a Cessna is just wrong.
Its like calling a Ford pickup a Ferrari. Anyways Kudos on the first general aviation based plane in IL2.

Consider naming it Piper Tripacer instead of L-72 please, so you won't offend anymore Cessna pilots.  ;)

Well, I never really intended it to be a Cessna 172..   :D
It's a 'what-if' stinson L-5 with tricycle gear. I can't think of any more names for it.  :-[

Anyone got any better name ideas?  :P

(BTW, no offence taken  ;) )

The last plane produced by the Stinson was the 108 which still have the tail wheel...what about call it Stinson 110?

Or , since it is an upgrade of the L-5 , call it L-5T?

Awesome  :D ;)

This most excellent aircraft will go very well in the Central American map

A lot of light aircraft including Cessnas were used.

Thanks for the great effort.  8) ;D ;)

Plenty of light aircraft post-'50 have had a supporting role in brush wars. Looks just fine to me. Good grief, did I just say that? Must be a sunny day outside.
