S~GilB57:
I have been following your progress with the two maps. The members of the IL2 community that are interested in maps and the uses of them is very diverse. In particular the members that fly the online coop campaign using the SEOW program have particular needs for maps to meet the HSFX/SEOW standard to enable them to be of use in campaigns. We have a campaign that is going on currently on the ashes_Battle_of_France online version of this map. Many of the participants are from either Belgium, France, Germany, England, and the Netherlands so they really enjoy flying over their respective cities and towns.
Historical accuracy is important as well as size of the map (scale), playability, and a crucial aspect is the road and rail networks. Since the ground is a key element in the SEOW campaigns this is an area that sometimes is neglected by map designers. For example some of the community modded maps are great for dogfight servers but are not useful because the mapmaker did not layout the roads, bridges, railway lines, rail bridges correctly or they have blockages etc. When roads are not layed out properly or are not complete that makes the map useless for any campaigning using SEOW. The same holds true for trains and the rail network and rail bridges.
So the ground is crucial for a map to be able to be incorporated and used in conjunction with the Scorched Earth Online War Campaign. That being said I hope that the map makers keep that in mind because that just expands the audience of people to enjoy the map makers creation. Obviously you have taken an interest in getting the historical accuracy for this map and should be commended for the effort. I hope that the same attention to detail is put into the functionality for the ground, (roads, railway lines, bridges, water,) as is for the air ( airfields, cities, etc). Its nice to look down from 6000m and see a city but when you have to bomb a tank column to defend your infantry at 250m or in a dogfight on the deck near a city, you don't want to be experiencing a slide show because of all the rendering.
I look forward to your releases of your maps, it is my understanding that you will be releasing two versions one for early war period and the Ardennes 1944 winter version. These would certainly be nice to have for future IL2 enthusiasts.
