Maybe this little program could help a little bit:
Nikolay Raspopov

You can see converted TGA files before open them.

EasyRider painted the BlankFieldPlate a long time ago and had it posted for download
As it is not available anywhere anymore,I thought I would host it for Map Editors

This dropped into your MODS folder, will make the BlankFieldPlate visible
just remove the folder or - Minus the name out to de-activate the Mod which will make the BlankPlate invisible again

EasyRiders,

depends on how detailed of an airfield you want to make

FMB+ Opens up the airfield plates, but there more for adding onto airfields
as you need a perfectly flat area on a map to actually build an airfield from scratch

Most map makers just copy airfields off of stock default maps,
then paste them onto there maps
It is a good way of going as it is extremely quick and easy, and the airfields work because there default airfields

Building airfields, and building them correctly so the work good for AI aircraft is a challenge
and one, of the most difficult and time consuming aspects of making a map

Unlocked FMB is what is needed to build new from scratch airfields

Dont let any of that put you off,it is easy once you get on to it

Here is a small Demo map,
and thread that goes through the process to show how to make an extra airfield on the New Guinea map

Also, on page 9 of the "how to make a map", it says that i should download the pacific islands from AAA. now, AAA's site is down, and i supposedly need the mods folder from that pack. soo... do i just forget the mods folder or do i copy the one from UP3 or what?

It may be because the test map is packaged for 4.09 modded game
If your running 4.10 and UP 3.0 or DBW it would need to be taken apart and installed by hand

Basically,in UP 3.0
You just need the map folder, place it in
IL-2?#UP#/MapMods
or...
IL-2/#UP#/STD/maps

which ever folder structure you like, search for your all.ini in either of those two locations
and add the required all.ini info

how to create your own all.ini info>
Right clicking on the map folder and copying the folders name then, pasting it into the all.ini then hitting space bar once and pasting the name again then/load.ini

example>
Guadal_Testmap Guadal_Testmap/load.ini

First name can be anything
MyGuadal_Testmap Guadal_testmap/load.ini

second name after once space needs to be the name of the map folder
/load.ini tells the game which load.ini to load

In the above example, once in the FMB
you would see MyGuadal_Tesmap  ;)

Just dissect the download,
and use just the map folder to install into whatever kind of Modded game you are running

I just did it,and the map runs fine in UP 3.0
